Setting up a static IP address on a MAC - Help please?

If you leave the wireless on, you could also add the ethernet connection as well, the Mac shouldn't be upset by it, just use it IME ;)

Thanks , I might dig out a cable and try the then as it looks like it only backed up 36GB in the last 8hrs , 115GB to go. Its just I was sure that in the iMACs wireless settings it prompts you if you want to use an ethernet instead of a wireless connection and I didn't want to start fekking about at this late stage.

I was actually surprised that you didnt/couldnt hook up the NAS directly to the Mac for the first back up.

On your network the Modem/router is acting as your DHCP server (providing internal IP addresses) the only way you could direct connect would be to do it with USB or disconnect the NAS from your router (having set it a fixed IP, and set it up as a DHCP server) I think.

This would be a bit messy in the long run, as you would then have to reverse all this and reconnect to your router for incrementals
