I'm thinking about doing a couple of alterations to a twin shock BMW. One of which might be the fabled 4" swingarm extension. I'm not capable of doing the work myself, and was wondering if anyone has had it done recently, who by, and if you don't mind telling, how much?

Thanks

Rob

doin the shaft is fairly straightforward, never seen an arm done though, pics?

i take it the extension is under the shock mount?most good welding shops could do it, u should find one around you,

I had a chat with Andrew Sexton today, and he reckons that HPN is the only way to go for the swing arm/shaft. I have no welding experiance at all, so is it as simple as chop, stick a bit in and weld, or am I going to have to go the HPN route. Likewsie I presume that the shaft is balanced, so putting a section in would have to be done expertly.

Cheers

Rob

I would have thought that if you weld a bit in or buy two shafts and cut one end longer than the bit you discarde ( Only one weld ) you still run the chance of welding it out of phase or cock-eyed = out of parrallel. A little bit more than the average DIY jobby. Balancing etc. would be recommended for a fast spinning shaft wouldnt it ???
And the price ?? for a one off
Go to a proffesional outfit that has done a few/lots if you really think you need one

Rob see the thread I posted above

you may be able to contact him for details of the swingarm extension via ebay

I'm sorry Dave but if you need to ask..............
Seriously, the answer is only known to those discerning souls who have the insight to own 2 valve GS's.
In fact I'm pretty sure that anyone who owns a manderin coloured 1150 shouldn't actually be on this part of the forum at all!!!

Very kind regards

The way I've seen it done is by adding a block of alloy between the end of the swing arm and the bevel box. Just need to have longer studs made and it all bolts together. I think that's the way HPN do it.

No, you mean the discerning souls who actually RIDE two valve air heads.
Only just seen this thought perhaps since that last milestone birthday you'd given up bikes!. Sue appears to have written this post as there's a lot of big words in it!!. I'll give you a ring,
Best regards,
dave,
