What can I expect to get used to for my first time on a shaft drive system .. Been out tonight for a 1st proper ride out and it sometimes feels like a slack chain, especially over bumps !?? weird feeling.

Also, anyone get a light squeak upon pulling off (no naughty jokes !!) .. it sounds almost as if two bit of rubber are vibrating rapidly against one another, so something maybe loose ...

Thanks

The WC makes all sorts of weird noises especially the GSA . Retune your mind , check it for leaks every now and again otherwise enjoy it . Love mine but had to ignore the odd noises . So much better than the old shit heaps :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:augie

On all my BMWs I have experienced vibrations from the shaft drive when on light throttle. Its worse now than the old solid shaft drives of the 70s, the paralever is supposed to reduce torque reaction of a normal shaft drive but I cannot remember this being a problem except to MCN road testers.
I still find the vibes annoying and find adjusting the rear spring preload to level the shaft and reduce the angle at the universal joints makes things much better at low speeds. At higher speeds and under power the problem disappears.
My ideal shaft drive was the R65 of 1976, A support either side of the wheel, easy oil change of the bevel box, easy oil change of the shaft enclosure, shock absorber in the shaft. 760000 miles with no problems at all. No handling issues, no worries.
However time moves on and technology improves????????

yes , shafties have a "slack" that you can explore with your throttle.

you'll get used to it though.

.

Next to nothing on yer average ride the gubbins on the back does a pretty good job of keeping all those rotational forces in check much better than the shafts of old IMHO.

The one exception is the propensity to rise at the rear as you come to a halt at slow speeds that can catch you out if you're not used to it as the foot/ground horizon gets a little bit further away:D
