She's giving me bad vibrations

Glad to be of assistance sir, though im pretty sure it was Tim who solved it!
I hear we have your curry to look forward to in a couple of weeks?:clap
You'll have to keep the whiskey away from me this year!!!:D

I'll thank Tim myself, and get him to balance the wheel while I'm at it. :thumb

You can hope for something along these lines and we'll put the scotch in the food. :ChrisKelly

I'm not sure if we could manage Starters or the breads as well. :augie I'll have a word with the Boss to see if anyone could be trained up.

Also, it's Humbug's curries we are having so thanks to him. All I've done is follow the instructions and spent some time learning the technique. I'm now refusing to go to the local...

Looking good!!!!!! :clap

The bash plates with the fuel/water container are a work of art aren't they?

One upgrade for a later date you may want to consider is converting the 6 bolts in the front fairing to DZUS.

Hiya dakarDude,
Yes the bash plate is great and holds enough oil for 2 sevices is the plan.
Apparently the oil we need for the bike will be difficult enough to get hold of in Siberia.
That seems like a plan with the DZUS bolts, it is a bit of a pain undoing them when your in a rush.:thumb

I'm just waiting for the white front and rear fenders and white side panels/fork protectors to come from john then I can put the grafics kit on!
Also got a rallraid rear rack with handel, engine mouted tool kit and some fixings for my luggage rack still to come then apart from some soft luggage im good to go! :JB

Wow, your trip sounds fantastic!

I run with Motorex in mine:

..not cheap but it seems to run really well. Stock up before ye go :-)

The DZUS conversion, I would strongly recommend you do it. The standard headlight mask rubber recess / retainers do not last too long I found. They end up slipping through the holes and are a real pain to hold in place when attaching those 6 front fairing screws.

I got mine from DemonTweeks, for the front fairing that John supplied you, you need the 12mm D-Ring type (6 of). Plus 6 backs / retaining plates and 6 washers.

Then you will need to remove the rubberised recess holders that are in that headlight unit that the existing bolts screw into. Then you either rivet or.. drill in 2 small screws per hole on the headlight mask. You then fit some small screws through your holes into the retaining plates and put small nuts on the back of each and tighten.

Demon Tweeks Part Nums:

6 x D-Ring Type DZUS Studs (Steel)

6 x Dzus Panex Range Retaining Washer
(Steel)

6 x Receptacle plate (rivet on)

In fact, you could go one further and get an additional 4 DZUS studs as I have and fit an additional 4 (2 for each side fairing)?

..A very worthwhile upgrade IMHO.

Quick pic. (just finished mine last night):

Note the 2 Solstice-X additional lights under the nose, out of the way - very low amp requirement and you can wire them into the spare accessory socket :thumb2

For what you are doing you sound like you will need them? I put on a spot and a spread, a mate of mine told me about them, I'm dead impressed with them.

You could probably even get stuff like a Leatherman behind that front fairing (freeing up the toolkit you are putting on the side for other vital things), so this DZUS upgrade is going to be even more critical to allow quicker and easier access behind there. Here is my Leatherman behind there and I still have room for more s**t, like a nice set of cheese and tom sarnies :green gri:

(Leatherman up in the top right there).

The slight ball ache is getting at that fuel tank for spare fuel easily and quickly - I wondered about converting to DZUS on that main bracket at the front of the bash plate (2 bolts into that bracket), but then decided it might not be a safe plan to use DZUS? What are you doing to make it easy to get at the spare fuel, or are you just going to release the bash plate totally to get at it?

All the best - and enjoy your 690, she's a minter! :bounce1

..and get some piccies up when she is totally finished, graphics and all!

That's brilliant Dakar dude, thank you for all the info!
I will get that stuff ordered, some great ideas there!!!
I will put up pic when I get it all together!

Looking like the dog's doodah's :thumb2 A comfy seat like that will be a blessing on a long trip like yours.

Yeah the seat was re padded and widened with suede cover for £120 ( bloody good price me thinks )
It looks comfy alright but mark hasn't done any miles on it yet so we're not sure!
Will keep you posted! :thumb

Definitely - keep the updates coming.

£120 sounds good considering the price of a Renazco or similar :thumb2

Kev asked me to post this pic!! It's got a new seat (looks like a renazco!!) and some Ard panniers!
