Gundum, sorry to hijack your thread, where in Italy are you? motor valley? anywhere near Modena?

mmmmm motor valley, is that perhaps Velle San Liberale, near Bassano de Grappa, Motoriste restorante Morritzio of Motor Club Pompone etc.....padon my italian, its a great place....maybe not thye same place

Motor Valley is the Emilia Romagna region, yes centred on Modena, so called Motor Valley because it is home to much of the Italian sports car and motorcycle industry (and their museums) and it's most famous race tracks as well as thousands of Italian petrol heads and some cracking roads.

Bingo!

Congratulations AdamA! You've won a globe with inner light!

FW190: Great Nickname, just adding D-9 you'll be perfect!

For all you guys: www.gs-equipment.de (you know best....yes I know)

That reminds me of many happy days spent around Scandiano, Sassoulo, Vignola, Casalgrande and Spilamberto. Unfortunately in a truck collecting ceramic tiles and not on a bike. I love Italy.

gulp!

Aidan, I'm from Spilamberto and my first home town was Vignola...I can't believe that you rolling around those places...but the very incredible thing it's that you remind them with happiness...

My english sucks, I know. Be patience please....

Aiden, we lived in Scandiano for about 6 months before buying the house up here in the mountains! Any of the following truck company names ring a bell? Rodgers of Northampton, Wrefords, SJ Pierce, and HA Boyse from Bedford, all used to get down this way on the tile run.. (I worked for one of them back in the day) Guy named Andy Wood used to work for both Wrefords and Rodgers.

Gundum, We live up near Toano, so about 40mins from Modena! Drop me a PM and maybe hook up for a beer or two? No HP2 for me I'm afraid, just an 1150 Rockster.. Some good roads up here though, Cerretto pass, Radici etc..
Thinking of going to World Super bikes at Imola at the weekend..

Small world and all that!

I knew all those companies FW but wouldn't have known any of the drivers. After many years on dry freight I moved to fridge work and used to tip beef at Vignola regularily then load peaches and kiwi fruit around Cessena and Ravenna back to Dublin.

Campogalliano used to be a good spot for the dinner. Cheap and cheerful, but pretty good.

Funny that you mention Radici, for some reason the road name "Via Radici in Piano" has always stuck in my head. I think it was near Fiorano Modenese if memory serves.

Happy days. :)

Happy days indeed! Bet you had a big Scania with the wrong model badge... 360 when is was a 420!? used to work with my Turbostar! 360 instead of 480! sound of that V8 used to give it away though.. Some of the trucks round here now are 600+ Hp! the lads hauling tippers from La Spezia into the Ceramic works at Gatta have to be seen to be believed.. Makes me quite envious..
Well if you're ever down this way again then let us know, the start of the Radici is about 10km from my front door! it's in a bit of a mess at the moment as a landslide last Winter took out one of the bridges and made a bit of a mess! Montefiorino is a beautiful place and worth a trip through the hairpins to take a look round the castle and take in the view...

Cheers FW

hehehe...

Radici pass....Scandiano....Cerreto pass.....weird: am I on ukgser or what? :eek Hahahahahaha!

Well if you're ever down this way again then let us know,

Funnily enough Mandy and I are talking about France, Italy, Sardinia and Corsica in 2011 (as I am away to the USA for a month next June on the GS) but a UKGSer meet for dinner in that area would be good fun. :)

as I am away to the USA for a month next June

What part of the US will you be in, I know a lot of amazing roads & rides in the south west if you need any pointers.

Your route plan is great, I did almost exactly the same route three years ago, with the exception of taking the south rim. The one thing to make sure you don't miss is the highway from Durango up to Telluride, as you head north, and plan a night or two there so you can rent a lightweight trailbike to ride the mountains!

well mate, the invite is there. (may need to remind me nearer the time!) but if you're heading this way then keep us in mind and we'll hook up and maybe get a few folks over this way for a rideout and some food and wine!

Have fun in the US, I used to go to a bar in Colorado Springs when I worked there which had it's own brewery..(so if you get there it's good place to grab a brew) can't remember the name though.. on the main street if I remember right, it's about the only place to get a good pint and the food was pretty good. Get up to Pike's peak and the Garden of the gods as well... right mate, see you 2011!

Andrew,
Is that you??
Simon Lester (yes, that one)!

Simon, wow, small world, it is me indeed, Simon Murton & I are still chuffing around on our BM's! After my dad passed away I started getting the yearning to get another bike as a way of keeping in touch with his spirit. He was always really sad I gave up bikes, and so ironically I ended up getting my Megamoto at exactly the same age that he bought his first BMW R60/5, and like that one mine is also an ex-BMW fleet bike too!

I've been having such a great time reimmersing myself in bikes again, but I had to stop when I did, I was driving mad fast bikes at mad fast speeds, and couldn't go slowly. I took it to the track for eight years after stopping riding, first an M3, then a GT3, followed by two track prepped Lotus's. Did over 200 track days, then woke up one morning and knew I'd done that. So now, after all that, I can finally ride a bike at a sane and civilized speed!:)
