Shetland 2013 Most Northerly 1200GSA

Leaving the farm for a three and a half hour ride to Aberdeen to catch the Northlink ferry to Shetland for a weeks riding on the UK's most northern roads.

Good food, good beer and good company and mostly good weather.

Meeting up with Johnny Ingram on the ferry and then going on some of Shetlands most remote roads and visiting radio masts on the top of the many hills was great fun.

St. Ninians isle was just like the Mediteranean and the sand was very soft for the GS even with TKC 80's and I got a wee bit stuck and took and hour and a half to get the b*gger back out onto solid ground again!

After such good weather it was low cloud on the island of Unst at Saxa Vord.

Returning south to the mainland on the inter island ferry's then a ride out with Patrick on his unique R1150GS and a ride up to Collafirth Hill.

Lots of ferry journies from the Shetland mainland to Yell then Unst!

Saxa Vord on the island of Unst is where you can be the most northerly GS in the UK..............!

Saxa Vord radar station and just beyond that the most northern BMW R1200GS Adventure in the UK.........Ever!

I can't tell you how much I miss Shetland, I would move there tomorrow but my family won't have it.

so did you ride yr bike alongside the fenced off area at the back of the buildings at the rear of dome to get near the edge to get more northerly ?

Im not handing over my title of "most northerly Gser in the uk" until we have a measure of the Northerness.

Oh yes..........Well past the end of the fence and it was just dry enough to get the 'behemoth' GSA round in a big circle near the top of the cliffs for 'the' photo!

Any closer and i'd be in the sea!

Last time I went in November 2011 it was far too wet but I could see the faint wheel marks from the 'previous' Most Northerly record attempt holder!

GPS Co-ordinated to follow but I think it has to be a 'draw' for the record as it's too dangerous to get any closer to the top of the cliffs but at least it wasn't a 70mph gale this time!
