Might be lucky and head up to Shetland for a week at the end of the month after a very long winter on the farm! See if I can book the ferry for around the 27th tomorrow!

Hopefully i'll be staying at the Sail Loft Camping Bod in Voe but i'll be taking my tent and some extra tent pegs just incase although i'm usually up there at the end of October which can be character building to say the least.

Going to Shetland at the end of May will make a change having so much daylight!

FP.

Just getting into Lerwick as we speak, plenty of light (well not right at this second) and nice flat seas shame I am going home tomorrow

For anyone who hasn't been.........This is what it's like at the end of October 2010!

A few more just to whet the appetite and it'll be warm with lots of daylight!

A few more just to whet the appetite and it'll be warm with lots of daylight this time instead of always blawin' a hoolie and even having to jamb the bike in the ferry doorway to keep it upright!

Shetland is a stunning place...was there with my daughter for the last week of the Easter hols to see the old man who is now working in Lerwick.

Next time i will be taking the bike..solo..:D:D

I sooo jealous...

I am away south to scotland on the 16th. will be back on the 27th any of you want to meet let me know. F.P. knows my numbers. I will be in Dalkeith on the 17th. Would be good to meet up.

I'm heading north on probably the 690 Enduro after HUBBUK finishes on 2 June.

The plan is to take in Orkneys and Shetlands sometime around 5-8 June, staying in böds and bunkhouses. If time permits might visit Lewis and Harris.

Looking forward to the 20 hours/day daylight. Anti midge advice welcome. :rob

Try taking vitamin B1 tablets and odourless garlic (liquid) capsules, one each per day, for about a week before you get there and continue the dose during your stay.

Dogs may run for a mile to piss against your legs but the dreaded midge will not appreciate the smell which will be emanating from your every pore. :thumb

Yep.......That's me booked leaving on the 27th May and returning on the 4th June.......Staying at the Sail loft Camping Bod in Voe as usual because it's very handy for the Pier Head restaurant/pub and the bakers over the road and at £10 per night it's very good value too if a little rough and ready!

Did you have something to eat in the museum, the restaurant is really good there!

Yes, It's very good and I usually go there a few times and have a chat with the Icelandic woman who works there.

I went to an evening lecture at the museum aswell about the first Shetland settlers last time I was there in October 2011 and it was really interesting although coming out the lecture theatre at the museum to a frozen ice covered GS wasn't ideal!

I also know a crazy Belgian called Guido Claes who 'lived' in the floating shed in Voe and built himself a 'Shetland type' boat similar to his other 1940's one which I was rowing in the Voe...........Quite a character although he's now bought a small farm on Yell!

Hi FP I'm on the boat home on the 28th, Give me a shout and we could meet up. That goes for anyone coming up to Shetland.:D:rob

St. Ninians Isle from Mossy Hill

Nice............Got my GS stuck on that sand spit following a set of quadbike tracks and it took me half an our to get the bike back onto firm ground again!

Had it in first gear pushing like hell alongside the bike with the mother of all rooster tails until it finally got some grip and that was with TKC80's.......!

Have you seen these Reliant Robins hiding in the peat?

I wondered what happened to him, the floating palace had gone:confused:

Is Guido a big fella with a moustache? It would explain why I keep seeing him on Yell these days.

If there's half a floating boathouse shed in his garden then that could be him though he's usually unshaven wears those lace up leather motorcycle breeks that continentals seem to prefer and has a Hein Gericke textile jacket that's more grime than textile!:D

Here's Guido building his 22 foot Shetland Type boat by hand in the boathouse and Keith with the mussel farm in Voe taking me out in his boat!

The council clowns made him move the barge, I would have stayed put, Billy o' Gonfirth put that there in 1998 to grade mussels. I lived 1/2 mile up the Eid road passed the Pierhead.
