SHETLAND

I'm at Sandwater junction and heading North to Vidlin every morning at 0715hrs.
Either a 61 plate red GS or a black 59 plate Buell XT. I will keep an eye on my mirror.:rob

You get a lie in everyday then,
I leave Lerwick at 6.15. so go past there about 6,30 I guess,
Im not gona tell you all my personal best to work in case its frowned upon:augie

lie in

6 15 , i'm at work by then .

how come it takes you that long to get from the town to the halfway house ? .

Lerwick to gas plant takes average of 40 mins in the pick up as the TOTAL :ronno make every vehicle have a tracker which they monitor the speeds, anyone found going over 70 between 7am-7pm is sacked,
but they look at the speeds outside of these times and put pressure on everybody to do 50mph,thats why you will see lines of pick ups holding up the locals,
I garantee I will be pulled buy TOTAL :ronno for ovetaking everybody going into work on my bike,we are going the limit so you must they will cry.

TOTAL:ronno think they own the island.

Give us a few regs' and I'll email them and ask them why their drivers believe it's acceptable to bottleneck the traffic by refusing to keep up with the flow of traffic in a 60 zone.

Or just tell them they're all cnuts:thumb

Set of French pricks, never forgiven us for beating them twice and bailing them out of two world wars.Local Gestapo are targeting all Total traffic, especially
Finian number plates.

speed

the italians and the irish don't take any notice to speed or which side of the road they are on

Yr wrong

Yr Wrong:rob,

I work for the Italians in a senior position and they are extremly aware of the impact that speeding and wrong side of the road has,
Im not saying early on that there were not issues but out of all the companys on the project they are the most proactive in adressing any impact they may have on the island,
They are also the biggest employer of local labour on the project and pay above average wages to boot, indeed if it was my decision SOME of the locals would have been let go a lot earlier:jager

Im a seasoned professional and have been around and know good people when I come across them:thumb2.

Thats why we employ Poles and Latvians in our factory. I disagree with the driving. Pickups with IRL plates were a danger on the road, and the White van with Italian plates :censor:that stays at valleyfield pulled out to overtake when i was alongside him on the Kames. My day will come.

Its the place that you live and I respect that.:thumb2

I will agree that it WAS like the wacky races previously not so now:aidan.

I have seen plenty of localy registered motors binned by the side of the road so it's not all outsiders with the bad driving,Let me assure you that my company take it very seriously when issues of this nature are brought to there attention.

PM me in the future and I will personally deal with it:hug

italians

it wasn't a local white 110 landy that clipped my mirror while it was on my side of the road . this was as he came round a blind r/hander at voxter in shetland rain . :rob:rob:rob

rant over .

they have calmed down .:thumb

its all noted

Ok fellas.

All noted.

Like I said we respect that it's your island,

mistakes will be made by all nationalities, be that locals or visitors.

FYI,
Im proud to work for the Italian company,
they are an easy target and have put up with a lot of shit on this project and behaved in a dignified manner when others would have crumbled and fcuked off with their tail between their legs.

The pipeline is 90% complete so the numbers have dropped by 70% on our part (Italian) of the project.

The bad news is you have 600 men (British) coming over the coming months, although all of these will be staying in the camp and not spending any money in the local econamy, they will be bussed everywhere to further add to the convoys north of Brae.:blast

Im closing this part of the thread, any problems PM ME:thumb2

Don't forget folks its a ZMCC run out all welcome, meet at Victoria Pier 1400hrs.Saturday 14th April. and a social evening upstairs in the Thule Bar later.
Hope to meet you all there.:beerjug::beerjug::beerjug::beer::blagblah

Back

Got back on the ferry yesterday,
smooth enough crossing,
drove up to sullom in the van,
typical shetland weather as in sunny in Lerwick, Blizzard around Voe and sunny at Sullom again, amazing :blagblah,

Get the bike outa the van today ready to commute to Lerwick, theres a 54 ktm adventure in the Shetland hotel where I am havent seen the rider yet,
see you on the road:thumb2

Hope you get some good weather from now on. :beerjug:
I hope the weather up there improves too! I’m on the boat next Saturday night so if you see a GS with a FE59… plate during the bank holiday week, say hi! I’m planning a couple of nights at Saxa Vord, so I can have a wander round Hermaness and also ride the GS until I genuinely run out of road! I’ll then be on the Mainland until the following Friday evening’s boat, May 12th.

Most northerly GS in the UK maybe.......?

FP.:thumb

Maybe, but more importantly, as far from the hassles of work as I can get without going abroad!

I always think Shetland is abroad......The locals I know certainly don't think of themselves as Scots.....More like Norse cousins and i've never seen the Saltire flying in Shetland just their own Shetland flag.

The Shetland dialect is very thick aswell but it's a great accent to listen to.

Have a great time!

FP.:thumb

I agree, it'll be my 4th or 5th trip, I love the place.
