SHETLAND

I rode up to the radome the gate was open as there were some blokes working on one of the ariels up there.
Just as you come up to the main gate there is a gravel track to the left that goes round the back to the north,it leads down to a brick building that looks like some kind of switch or transformer room.it has a fenced off field behind it with radiation signs on it,I rode my bike round the back of there to get as far north as i could to get the picture, its a bit boggy so i walked the route first, be careful a there are pools etc, once you are moving dont stop as it a bitch to get going again on that stuff.

Can I claim most northerly GSER then :nenau:bounce1

I was hoping you'd say it was round the back of the Radome, that would have made me a clear winner. But it looks like we both have done the same thing.

It was dryer last time I went up to the old block at the end of the gravel track (pictures taken Summer 2010). I went left of the transformer shed and out about 300m over the grass, I reckon you've beaten me by about 100 meters.

Must nip back up there now and get my title back!

The title should read"Most Northerly GSER IN THE UK"
so was the bike with you in hermaness? I rode round to the end where the road ends with bird sanktury.there is a gate but a gravel/path track going off up aways.

If you were on foot I want the title back.!!

I could of got closer to the edge of the cliff but shit out coz the ground was so soft.

You'll get shot if you try to take your bike up onto Hermaness! So at the moment you are 'The Most Northerly UKGS Bike'

But the title will soon be mine again......

The title is yours.......:bow

I went up the south side of the radome and there was a locked barrier in the way so I walked the rest.....As for Hermenes I left my bike at the 'car park' and walked the penninsula with the GPS in my pocket:blast

The Nordkapp and Iceland bit was true though:cool:

Shetland!

I've had to cancel my original booking due to Lanark and Fort William 'blackie tup sales' 4th and 5th November but i'll be up for the last week of October.

I'll keep you guys posted but look out for a white GSA30, I should be staying at the Sail Loft camping Bod in Voe.

Now about this 'Most Northern' record:hide

bit worried bout bluebird's choice of flag , the cross is goin the wrong way .

as no one told im ee's not in scotland anymore .:beerjug::beer:

Aye,

Can't ever remember seeing a Saltire in Shetland, seen more Norwegian and Shetland flags.

My lasting impression......Shetland is more 'Norse' than Scottish that's for sure(It's a pity the old Shetland language died out)

I've been learning a bit of Icelandic(like old Norse) over the past few years and it's certainly not wasted in Shetland especially with the place names etc.

Im at home for a week, back this monday alas without my bike,if u can get further north, bring it on:thumb2

be careful near the edge of the cliff with yr bike though its well soft round there at the moment:tears

I propose a measurement off the back fence of the enclosure at the rear of the transformer building or sat nav reading as evidence of northeness:nenau:clap

I will call in to the sail loft to say hello,if u see a red 05 L200 pickup mooching about it will be me,.

Going to take a blat over to Unst tomorrow if the weather is OK - I'll sound out the ground at the back of the enclosure:green gri

But I ain't being silly, that's not place to be getting into trouble by yourself.....maybe a Summer task when the ground's better.....

+1:thumb It's a bloody long walk home.....!

Ferry is booked AB-L 22nd October returning around the 30th. Even had new TKC 80's fitted to the GSA30 today at MCE so i'm good to go.

I might even bring my tent and use it if the weathers good otherwise it'll be the Sail Loft or one of the other Bods but then again the food and beer is good at the Pier Head......!

Maybe we should all go up there together or put a book to sign in a tin box somewhere and invent a badge or sticker for the 'Most Northerly'.......?

Well..... it's 'blawin a hoolie' as ever but mild at least.

Went up to Saxa Vord yesterday and it was too windy to stand let alone ride the bike but I did manage to get to the 'most northerly' point in the British Isles.......Well almost....!:D

The wee ferries between Unst and Yell were interesting and it's a good job i've been ACF 50'd

Still shrieking today, too.

Met Toadjam last night, had a brew and a natter.
