Have just fitted a headlight shield protector to my GSA 1250 . Guy has mention that it will not pass MOT and illegal to ride in France with it . On the spot fines. Anyone heard of this ?
Sounds right. I’ve got a Touratech Perspex one, it’s branded ‘not for road use’. Obviously for the mot, it’s going to distort the beam, but those replacement light units ain’t cheap! Used mine on runs across Europe, never had a problem. You're only going to get caught out if you are pulled for something else.
Cheers
Dave
I had a clear perspex Touratech headlight protector permanently fitted to my 1200 GSA from 2012 to 2019 (Just sold it). The bike passed the MOT at the BMW dealer every time. I suppose it depends on what type you fit and whether it distorts the beam. (thinking of the grill type here)
On the second point, I toured Europe twice a year every year and was stopped by the police on a number of occasions, and again, I didn't have a problem. I think like in the UK most cops won't have the knowledge to recognise when a headlamp cover has been fitted or if there is a possible beam distortion issue!
