Shift assist problem

Just returned from a two week jaunt round France on my 2015 GS TE
I have gear shift assist on the bike and it generally performs well but on some days, it would not work at all and I had to switch the ignition off and on again to get it working
This happened a number of times over a few days
Has anybody had a similar issue and if so, what was the fix?
I have yet to contact my dealer about it.

On my 2016 quick shift I notice it is easier going up than down. With the throttle fully closed I have to apply quite a bit of pressure to go down 6,5,4 and then I manual clutch the rest. There may be a knack to it though ��
 
Mine works great on fast up shifts 3-6 to get it to work well either way 2-3 is a bit of a lottery. I've had mine jump from 3 to N and once 3 to 1 which was pretty mental. I like the engine braking it gives when changing down. Still not really decided if I'd have it again or not!

Mine works beautifully. Down shifts are a joy as the exhaust with baffle out pops and cracks nice and loud. 1st to 2nd is a tad clunky but 2nd to 1st works well and lovely pop to boot. Can't fault the other gears either way.
 
Shocking on mine despite 2 updates , plus since the last update the neutral indicator doesn't like coming on and neutral is becoming very difficult to find ( I know it is between first and second but it is playing hide and seek)

Is it easy to take the baffle out of the stock exhaust?

Thanks for the replies. Mine works beautifully apart from this recent and intermittent problem. I also had some issues with the gear not being displayed on the dash at the same time.
I'm sure a reinstall of the software will fix it
 
Had the 600 mile service last week and mentioned the GSA required some firm pressure up and down, after having it on the computer all timings were correct. Post service it does seem better, which is likely down to the software updates carried out.

I have found up changes easier is If i drop off the throttle a smudge then re apply throttle and make the change, this seems to remove the jolt you can get when making a change.

Also finding that it doesn't always want to change down when requested which is a little unsettling on entry to bends.

Based on current operation I'm not sure I would spec it again as I'm currently a little underwhelmed and disappointed with it.
 
Mine stopped working all together on my 2015, dealer ended up changing the micro switch on it.... Worked perfectly for three or four months but again now doesn't like the change down all the time and seems very clunky on up change too.....
 
I have to say that it sounds broken to me. When I picked up my R, I needed to twitch the throttle on upshifts and use a hefty boot going down, and the problem was that the thing was just not working.

Having replaced it under warranty, it's now excellent and it's smoother when I use the shifter than when I use the clutch.

Indeed twitching the throttle on upshifts (I've done this for clutchless changes on"normal" bikes for years) makes things significantly worse when the shifter is working properly.

The key things I need to remember are that it only works going up on a positive throttle and going down on a shut throttle.

I'd try one that's known to be good for comparison, and then go poke your dealer with a stick

I had my GSA in for service last week. As a loaner I was given a R1200rs.

Although the RS was not for me, I was shocked at how much better the quick shifter was on this bike.

The feel of it and the gear lever was like chalk and cheese compared to my GSA.

I was guessing that the RS has a very different gear box as it felt quite different in 1st as well ie when in 1st if you press the lever down - on the GSA it feel rock solid (bottom of the box) on the RS it was like there was a rubber stopper that in 1st if you pressed down was up against.

Would be interested to know if anyone knows the differences in gearbox between a GSA no a RS as like I said they felt completely different when paired with GSAP.
 
I can't say that I have a lot of experience with the quickshifter, but I rode both the '16 GS and S1000XR last weekend.

The XR is much easier and smoother both up and down. With the GS, the downshifts were pretty faultless but the engine clearly needs to be under power going up. The dealer said it was like doing clutchless shifts in that the engine really needs to be loaded and you probably don't want to try it from 1st to 2nd. Made sense to me anyway.

While the GS shifting wasn't anywhere near as smooth, it is definitely very good and a significant improvement for me. So much so that I ordered a new GS with the quickshifter fitted. That's over 11 years of GS ownership and my third one!
 
Mine is shite. It feels as though I have to force it into gear on up changes and stamp on the lever for down changes. Not smooth at all.
It feels like there's more resistance when changing gear than when using the clutch. I don't bother with it anymore.

It's either a software issue or pilot error.
 
I to found the rs qs much better than on my gs when I had it out, techy suggested it may be how the engine sits in the frame but it was soon much better.
