Silly question I guess. Shipping motorbike from gatwick on friday. Must be clean and bug free. Need to get it washed near gatwick on thursday. Prefer jet wash if possible/any other thoughts? Dealer nearby?

Thanks!

Give Vines at Caterham a call, they'd be able to help:thumb

I live 10 mins from Gatwick.I have a Karcher jetwasher and bike cleaning facilities you are welcome to use free of charge on thursday.

We've shipped ours twice from Gatwick. Although the bike needs to be clean and bug free, you don't need worry too much about a full valet. We cleaned ours ourselves in London before riding them down to Gatwick and they were fine. :thumb

Do you mind me asking hat kind of money it is to ship by air?

I lied. I just checked our travel docs for Mav. We shipped ours once from Gatwick in 2006. In 2009, we were really under the cosh here in France due to the poor Euro/£ exchange rate which had almost reached parity in December 2008. Meanwhile, the price of airfreight had risen so much that we ended up sending the bikes by sea into Halifax. Apologies. (Different means of shipping, different ports of departure/arrival, but same rules re cleanliness.)

So, price of airfreight in 2006 was £1395 return per bike. From memory, the price quoted in 2009 was over £1600, plus currency surcharges! David Grist at HC Travel is your man for airfreight. :thumb

Thanks for checking - sounds like it's probably in the region of £2k now!

Shipping.

Most recent by ship $1200US/by air $2200US. Break even is about 4 weeks. I've been touring for about 6 weeks. 6 years ago it was $800/1800US.

Good info - thanks :beerjug:

Many thanks to lennythelion for offering me a free bike wash. I visited Vines BMW to say hello and call Lenny. After I told the folks at Vines I was going to get my bike washed the said "we will do it".

I asked how much and was told no charge for a visitor from the colonies.:beerjug:

I'd like to thank everyone at Vines and Lenny for their help. Bike to gatwick in the am.

Good riding to all!
