Im uggtek on thumpertalk.pm me there
Is it just my 1100 GS , or are most 1100 rear callipers not up to stopping the bike over 30 mph?

Motorworks told me the rear disc isnt big enough to pull the bike up , by just only applying the rear brake...?

surely bmv wont make a bike that relies on both brakes applied to stop the bike?

How come my mate on his 1150 , can skid the rear wheel @ around 60mph with no problem at all?

Apart from calliper mounting the pistons are the same on both 1100 and 1150 callipers, the wheels are the same, the discs are the same, the final drive shaft is different shape so the caliper is mounted differently to the 1100, but not as to radicaly change the caliper mounting position.

Av done all the usual checks, only thing left is to try different pads, poss carbon lorane?

using bmw pads at the mo,n a recon they must be glazed or sumat???

Has any one local got a spare calliper i can try to see if its better than mine?

Knottingley, castleford, pontefract areas....surrounding me!!!

Set of cheap HH pads like the GoldFren ones on eBay should let you know what's going on for about £18, I've used them before and they a good but wear pretty quickly:tears

Why the fuck would i what???

If he's thinking what I'm thinking, why would you (a) want to stop the bike using only the rear brake, and (b) want to "skid the rear wheel @ around 60mph"?

The front brake is designed to do most of the work in normal riding, not the rear. Or didn't your riding instructor teach you that? :pullface

Wot ridin instructor said i was totaly dangerous and shouldnt be on the road..

still ere now though.

the 60mph was just a reference to say it can be done, im not likley gona lockup at 60mph unless some one pulls out on me..?

my rear brake will only stop the bike under 15mph ish, its realy bad on gravle..
all or nothing...

in the dirt you dont want to have use the front brake when your sliding down a hill heading for your mate...

I should be able to stop the bike at low speeds when just riding around town, or bimbling down back lanes...

my GS is used in all conditoins and weathers..

(ps a know my spellin is shite)

hope this answers all the questions

points to note,
u have the same size disc as an 1150 (infact, it IS one)

bmv DO make bikes that need 2 brakes to stop them, like all the other manufacturers, i dont know of a bike that will continually stop via the rear brake , without getting hot,

bmw pads "make mine skid at 60, " (a car DID pull out on me)like you said, so why change?, i find them as good as carbone lorraine
if they are glazed, your caliper sticks or you keep your foot on the brake,
a point to also remember is that normal suspension bikes may skid more easily under braking as the wieght is thrown more to the front under normal braking, giving the impression of a "good"? back brake that can be locked easily

your disk, master cyl and brake line are new, and the caliper is free, doesnt leak, etc, and you have used 2 sets of pads,
after a pad change, i havent a clue????try some carbones but i dont think itl do any good, ????, try unglazing your pads 1st as they are deffo glazed if youv been tryin it loads,
just a thought, any oil on the disk??
