Hi , I'm looking for a rear shock for my 05 1200gs , I carry pillion 95% of the time and I'm not really happy with the standard shock , I've been looking at ohlins , hagon , hyperpro , maxton etc
Is there any advice I need before buying ?
thanx :thumb

I f you are really on a tight budget ask MCT suspension to have a look, they can uprate the spring to make it stiffer for you.
I asked this question last year and got told that i could do this if I wanted too, I just had the rear shock serviced and left the spring.

Others willbe along to say go wilbers or ohlins but they are at a cost. depends on your budget.

Your bike is an 05 so the standard shock is just about goosed. If you are on a budget, get the shock serviced as spike suggests and get a uprated spring fitted. Alternatively, put a wanted ad in the FS&W section for a low mileage standard unit as someone will have one on the shelf.

I have used Hyperpro compression springs before and they really did the job well and they will set them to your requirements. Try Calsport in Birmingham who are really helpful :thumb

I've just sold the kids and bought some Ohlins which are the Rolls Royce but they aren't on a budget:augie

You sort of get what you pay for, but the entry level Wilburs would be my choice for decent quality at a fair price.

I love my fully adjustable swanky Wilburs with 3 way damping adjustment, it really helps getting a bike to work well both one and two-up, but it was not so cheap. On the plus side this gear holds a good used value so you will always get a good return if you sell the bike later.

Technoflex?

Hi there wishbone

I have a pair of Technoflex shocks for an R1200GS. They're the same components as Wilbers and have a remote adjuster for the rear. I had them serviced locally and then the rear was used in a mates bike for about 1000 miles whilst his was being repaired. Let me know if you're interested.

Patrick.
