My Kalahari 1100 needs new tyres,so this morning I popped into my local preferred tyre supplier...Frank Bather Tyres in Birkenhead.

I was simply going to opt for my favourite Pirelli MT90 S/T Scorpions again, but got chatting about the rave reviews of the Conti Trail Attack and was tempted to try them.

Priced a pair of Trail Attack....£158 fitted....so they`re going on tomorrow :thumb2

Let`s see just how good they really are,eh ??

If they are anything like the Conti's on Mrs Flips Transalp you'll be well impressed matey :thumb2

IMO they are the best 10/10 piss over all the rest..........grip like sh1t wet or dry:thumb2

I wondered what they were going to replace the escape with. Must ring my friendly Continental Importer to see when they are due down here. Weren't here 3 weeks ago.
Andy.

If the trail attacks are as good as the road attacks that I have fitted to my 1150, then you will be well chuffed.

Done about 700 miles now and the 'Conti Attack' marks have now virtually worn off the back. Have had the tyres to the edge and they just grip and grip. They have given me loads of confidence and they make the bike handle like you wouldnt believe.

Tried them in the wet when they were new- they were OK then with they were still a bit shiny. Yet to test them properly in anger in the wet now they are scrubbed in bit have every confidence that they will grip just as well in the wet as they do when it is dry.

Still not sure on longevity- got a trip to normandy coming up and will report back how they fared after a week two up with luggage

As another fan of the Pirelli's, I'll expect a full report by 6pm tomorrow. :D

Well...a bit later than advertised, here we go.

The Contis were awesome 'straight from the box'.

I took them out for a quick scrub-in on the day they were fitted and they`ve been a revelation from the start.

Even allowing for the difference in new tyres compared to old,I`ll say they`re vastly superior to my beloved and highly recommended MT90`s.

They have no 'tip in ' effect found on some dual purpose tyres..though to be fair the Contis aren`t exactly 'block pattern' by any means..they are very much road biased in both compound and tread pattern.

The MT90`s gave oodles of feedback and I always felt confident on them,in any kind of weather, but the Contis allow even more banking over while still giving feedback....beyond the point where the MT90`s were feeling a tad 'twitchy' while right over on the block edges.

The GS turns in effortlessly and perhaps a tad quicker than previously, and at all speeds it is definately more precise.
Walking pace feet up U turns are definately easier, and slow crawling behind town traffic gives no 'wandering' that can sometimes happen with block treaded tyres.

I`ve done 250 miles on the Contis up to now....220 of them yesterday on a ride out with 116Monkey on his new GS.....We rode everything from smooth wet town tarmac, wet country lanes and dry dual carriageways to Welsh mountain passes (broken tarmac surface with loose gravel patches) and there wasn`t the slightest slip, slide or any kind of moment at all from the Contis.

I`m running them on 36psi front and 42psi rear.

I`m totally impressed and recommend them on a confidence and performance basis.

Just need to see how they compare for tyre wear now. :thumb2

Glad you like them :thumb2

I think what this goes to show is just how lucky we are these days with tyres. Christ, when I think back to the sort of tyres we were all riding on only ten years or so ago, they just don't bear any comparison.
The above review could have been written about just about any number of the current crop of modern tyres - any differences being just minor personal preferences/nit picking.

As an aside (and defo not having a pop at you haydw) what's all the bollox spout about getting tyres to the edge/having/not having chicken strips? Surely it's everything to do with tyre profile not how gripy a tyre is / how good a rider is :nenau

Case in point is my previous tyres, 020's had a good couple of mm left on the edges but the first day out on their replacements (new Battlewings) I had the back off the edge whilst scrubbing them in
Personally I think I'd rather have a tyre on that I couldn't get to the edge....

Andres

I dont actively take tyres to the edge per se, its just that I have far more feedback when the bike is leant over than I ever had when I used tourances- feedback is total which allows me to have the confidence to lean over that bit further- I dont tend to ride like an idiot, but do ride quite quickly which is why I went for the road orientated tyre over the trail one, but I was extremely suprised how far I was leant over when I looked at the tyres considering the machine I am riding.

Excellent feedback! I will definately be interested to hear how they do on wear. I've been very impressed with the TKC80s - it is a shock going back to them from Tourance, but for what they are they seem to do a really good job on and off roadso hopefully the Trail Attacks will be just as good and fit for purpose

If their anything like the Conti on the front of my GS when I got it, you'll crash !

What you just got them replaced! Either very brave or you haven't ridden it since you got back from the Stella!

Actually I thought you may have been tempted to return for the Anakee's that may have turned up by now in a certain place in Susa :)

Tarka,
You say your running these on 36 front and 42 rear, any reason for this?
I only ask because the conti web page states that they should be 2.2 bar front, and 2.5 bar rear ,which is 31.9 psi and 36.25 psi.
I totally agree with your review about how good these are, i've only done 100 miles or so but fantastic straight from the box. Rode on wet roads yesterday but im not so brave on the pissy stuff but may get braver as time goes on.
Right on the edge from day 1 without trying, was really suprised to see the chicken stips off.
Just wondered about the tyre pressures.
Cheers

No reason other than it being the recommended pressures for my bike.

The recommended pressures for laden or high speed use.

The same pressures I`ve used on the previously fitted Enduro 4,Tourance and two sets MT90 tyres.

Me too...........36F abd 40R on all my GS's

Speak to Mezeler and they believe the pressures BMW advise in the manual are too low
