Went into Duffy's on Monday, i needed a set of rear brake pads for the 1200GS. I was so shocked when he handed me the pads and asked for €94.00 :eek: that I actually bought them.

Now I think I'd be classed as a mentally strong person, well most that knows me thinks so.
This was a lesson, be careful out there "shock's a queer thing and it can make you do things out of character".

Anyway, why so expensive?

Can't help with question.
£26 from Motobins - allowing for currency & carriage still less than half of what Duffys ask.
Was the person wearing a mask & pointing a gun at you.:bobby

No, no gun or mask. A nice friendly guy actually.
As I say, "shock's a queer thing"
I think the guy behind the counter was even surprised I bought them.

Feckin hell Brendan,
I recently had a FULL SET of pads from Steptoe for a lot less!:thumb

I just bought a right hand switchgear for my 1200, Duffy's was €80 dearer than having it delivered to my door from hursts in Belfast!

Not good:( I said it to the guy in Duffy's and he said the price was set by BMW and should be the same from any motorrad!

comparison;

Before anyone starts - i know there's 'economies of scale' etc to take into account :blagblah :blagblah
but
why does two sets of brakes pads with twice as much 'meat' on them for a Ford Fiesta cost €22.50 - and yet one set for any Bike costs more?! :nenau

~~

Car components are mass produced on a bigger scale than bike stuff hence the cheaper price.

I hear that, but our friend here has been shafted if they are just £26.00 from Motobins.

Maybe it's just me, but nowadays I never buy service items over the counter....Google and mail order every time.

But!

Not going to defend rip-off prices, BUT, I needed some small parts about a year ago, fork seals, shaft seals etc and the price from J. Duffy was only about 2% dearer than Motobins etc. Given that I needed quite a few small bits, it was worth the extra to be able to talk to someone over the counter and confirm that I was getting exactly what I needed and had made no mistakes from the microfiche.

All that said, I wouldn't dream of going to them for brake pads.

I normally use the internet also. Only ever go to a dealer when no other choice. BUT this time I was in Dublin, passing the door and thought they can't be tooooooo much dearer. How wrong was I.

Please pass this thread to Duffy's, id love to see their response, bound to be similar to what the pharmaceutical industry would say, "special packaging" for our Irish markets warrants the 5 times difference between same products here and in Spain

Other than that you could have asked the chappie in Duffy's for a kiss

When he asks what do you want a kiss for you could reply

I like being kissed when im being screwed :augie

I said it to the guy in Duffy's and he said the price was set by BMW and should be the same from any motorrad!

That's something I'd like to see confirmed.

Usually are . I read somone posted on this thread
"" I would love to see their faces "" well i would hazzard an educated Guess
and say , the guy genuinely doesnt care.

You can bet your bottom Dollar though this thread has been pointed in
Joe Duffys managements direction .
What i would suggest and would really love to hear their responce to ..
Is will they REFUND you your Money as it has been pointed out to you
that you have been shafted. The Proof is in this thread.
If you were to be refused , then i would ask them for a Schedule for
pricing their items , and forward it to BMW irl. And enquire from there
why people in the Irish MArket are being scalded.

Would love to hear their responce .
I realise its a lotta hassle , but for Eur70 i would give it a lash.

Eh, sorry. I read "Duffy's" and thought "Keary's". Still..worth trying a local shop to save on UK postage.

yes. always worth trying first. Sometimes it pays off :thumb2
... though more often - just to make them wonder why so many enquiries and so few sales. :green gri
