lots of people think ohlins are the best shocks - and they are undoubtedly good quality.

however, they seem to have a short service life and occasionally blow seals.

Wilburs on the other hand seem well praised and cheaper - haven't anything bad about them.

biturbo used to make crappy OE shocks & forks for italian bikes. i think they make good quality OE stuff now, but didn't know they made after market shocks.

i have ohlins & they are ok. if i wanted the best, i'd be looking at the latest WP gear. fantastic visible build quality but huge money.

Bitubo

Used to be imported until last year by Tran Am but they are noy doing it any more so not sue there ia uk importer now

Done over 250,000 miles on the four valve boxers.

Used Öhlins... short service life. Great when new, never the same after a rebuild, soon look tatty, and winter reeks havoc with them.

Maxtons very good, can be rebuilt, great quality, but always seem to be on the harsh side and very stiff.

Standard suspension sh*gd after 20,000 to 30,000 miles. and in any case the rebound damping adjustment is there just to mention in the handbook... as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Wilbers the best by far... great quality, couple of clicks on the rebound and you can tell the difference.

Hope this helps

........disagree totally!
Ohlins are utterly and completely rebuildable by someone who knows how to!

Harris don't!

Russ Watson at Mick Gardner Racing in Barnsley does! (someone who consults for Pannos Racing at £500 per hour should be OK!)

I had my rear 1150 Ohlins rebuilt at Harris after its first 15,000 miles and although it was better than when it went in to them it was never quite right. Found Russ and all is rosie again - rear shock has now covered 60,000 plus miles on two 1150's and is rebuilt every 12,000 miles at a cost of about £100. It always comes back, and feels, like 0 miles and after 3 winters someone has just seen it on my new ADV in the dealership and commented they thought it was a new one.
Russ rebuilt it again in 3 days this time with an ADV shaft to match the suspension (shaft is only 7mmm longer than GS one interestingly which gives 20mm at rear wheel)
He is a real easy chap to talk to and always has a coffee on.

What do you think Jimb?

OK Sherps... only had my Öhlins rebuilt at Harris and Kaiz and they were never as good as when they were new. Still reckon that Öhlin's are built like a Swiss watch... ffffantastic BUT don't stand the rigours of everyday use. Ideal for posing, "Look at me I've got Öhlins fitted" but the Wilbers are from the WP stable. Five year guarantee with the Wilbers... Öhlins totally sh*gd by this time! Wilbers even thinking about giving a TEN (10) year warranty!

PS Alt+153 gives the Ö :beerjug:

Rebuilt every 12,000 miles? Bloody hell, that'd be twice a bloody year

Shocks Sold!!!
