Shoei GT Air and the GS

Got a GT Air over Christmas as my old Arai was getting a bit long in the tooth (25 years to be exact) and its a fantastic piece of kit....
Only problem is, 70 mph up and I'm getting a vibration from it that makes my vision blurred!.. not the best outcome at speed then...:eek:
I have a touring screen on right now and if I push my head over it and into the air, it works fine... but stay just where its going over your head.. its a problem maybe due to the vents on top of the lid?
Anyone else notice this at all?.. My Arai worked well in any conditions?
 
I could never get on with the GT Air partly for the same reasons and partly because of the fogiging up my specs problem and the fit just isnt as good as Arai for me

Funny things helmets as different ones suit different bikes better or worse. It is a real shame that you stand in a shop and get a helmet that fits well then try it on the bike to huge disappointment. Wind tunnells or real live testing before buying is needed as they are not cheap are they
 
On my old TC GSA, I left the winglets off on one holiday - suffered the same buffeting that you are getting, by the sounds of it.

Not sure you can blame the helmet - just the combination of bike/helmet/position etc
 
Well, It was £250 so half price and thats why I took the gamble. Sure it will be fine with my std screen, but thats not the point.... not sure if its the vents or just the shape of the thing?
pitty as I like the helmet... yes, my glasses mist a bit too.. but the pin lock thing work very well....
 
Don’t think it will be the vents, so if the only thing you have changed (i.e. you haven’t also newly fitted the touring screen) then you would have to assume it is the helmet shape.

Sell the helmet and buy another model?
 
Anyone want to buy.. only used twice :(

Mind you, it does keep your speed down LOL
 
Have a gt air, used it with gs and gsa screens with no problem (I´m 1.8m tall), only (small) issue is some wind noise coming from the bottom that can be solved with a neck warmer or something similar.
Bought recently a Neotec 2 that solved that (thighter neck seal), had it for two years (the gt air) and recently statted fogging a little but I think that´s a pinlock problem solved by geting a new one
 
No problems with mine and use a Puig screen.

If I was you I would contact Feridax and tell them of your issue. They fixed an issue with my visor and lent me a helmet whilst mine was with them. You may have a fault with the helmet and they will check it out for you. Excellent service so worth a go.

May do that.. thanks.. I'm sure it's my Puig scrren though.. as I say, push my head into the clean air flow and its fine.. its more the turbulance from the tall screen?.. But my Arai was fine with it... But the Air is a bit more angular, so maybe something for the air to get hold of?

Try an mra screen. I was getting bad buffeting with a gt air a hornet and an e1. Now some small clean wind noise but no buffeting.

Personally i didnt like the huge scoop vent on the top of the gt air. Im back to my hornet adv now.

Great Helmets these, but this sounds like an up-draught issue to me, usually solved with winglets. Could be mirrors or mirror positioning too. Easy enough to take a ride when it's quiet & try different riding positions, just blocking off the various airflows with the gloved hand to see where the turbulent air is coming from.

Personally I am no fan of big screens - I like to look over, not through the screen. They also tend to create a back pressure for the rider & can create other issues, such as turbulence for a pillion, but each to their own. There are so many variables for each of us that making screen recommendations is virtually impossible.
 
The screen is a Puig, but I cut 30mm off the top when I got it so I could easily see over it when in traffic etc (hate looking through them myself).. I think its this.. what I need to do is adjust it up and see if it still does it... I'm sure its the air hitting the top of the lid and the vent on top.. also I can tape the vent up and see if it still happens...
Do winglets fit on a GS?.. will have to look

That - may be the cause, which your previous helmet just avoided.

I imagine that screen makers do some model testing - to ensure that they ain’t making a disaster.

A flip device, at the top af the screen may also assist, but I suggest you try the winglets first.

BTW, I assume the Helmet is a good snug fit, not a Simoncelli. Then, don't forget, if you have a front chin or top vent open, the air has got to flow somewhere, & the inner liner allows for this to flow out through the rear vent, which I run open all the time.

Will have a look at those... a flip thing and your back to looking through something I guess?
Lid fit well... infact a bit too well... I was L in my Arai but L just felt a tad lose on this one and as you get 10% relaxation over time, I went for the M....
So I've been spending a few hours now crushing the inner a bit so I don't get pressure points on my forhead etc.. venting works well.. although when you take the lid off, you look a bit like 'Fire Starter' as you hair (if you have any) has been blow dried in the groves LOL

Don't worry, a few more years & gravity will move what's left of your barnet south. Mind you, it's like an extra duvet in winter.

Sounds like your lid is a bit tight TBH. I can run with a 60 Arai, but I need 62 in my Shoei - just the way they sit across the forehead I guess.
