Shoei Multitech

I am contemplating upgrading(?) from a BMW system 4 helmet to the new Multitech. Does anyone have one, and could you please advise me the pros and cons of what appears to be a good helmet?

Hi, had my new Shoei Multitch for a few weeks (exchanged after I couldn't get on with a Schuberth). So far so good. It's very quite and comfortable. Not tested in the wet yet.

Worth a try in my view.

Tested mine in the wet and no problem.

There is plenty of room in the ear space for autocom speakers and still be able to wear earplugs

Had to adjust the pinlock by using the second notch down to stop the pinlock being in my line of sight, but apart from that it's great.

It won't be as quiet as a system 5 or schuberth, but it's damn close

had mine for about 4 weeks now; best lid i've ever used in the wet! My previous lid was the BMW sportintegral which i know is notoriously poor in the rain but the shoei is a revelation! I can honestly say that once the visor is pulled down i very rarely lift it except for when i get to my destination; it never fogs up in the slightest!!
My only niggle is the STUPID little tab they've put on the chin vent which is rather tricky to operate with a gloved hand.
But other wise, worth every penny!!

One thing i have noticed which i must investigate is the fact that some wind was hitting my eyes with all vents closed and causing my eyes to water, watery eys=blurred vision!!! Anyone else experienced this?

Andy, did you put the full whisper strip on including the chin piece

yes had si,ilar troubles with full whisper kit and chin curtain fitted. Thought draught was entering through top of visor, although no obvious gap is visible!

Might try and adjust visor gap, i love the helmet other than that. It hasn't been a huge problem but have not used it in rain yet. Thought i would check if anyone else had similar issues.

Tony, I bought one at the bike show the other week. The time had finally come to put my faithful X8R out to pasture. I’ve reached the age and weight where comfort wins over vanity every time (hence the GS). I’ve given up on contacts and reverted to spectacles so the convenience of a flip faced lid really appealed. I’m blessed with a shoei shaped head, so I decided to go for the Multitech. I tried on a couple of mediums and either my head has shrunk with age (I still have most of my hair and teeth – honest), or shoei have changed their sizing policy as the fit was just the dangerous size of comfortable. In the end I settled for a small. That may have been a mistake. First time out I noticed that my chin is millimeters away from the front of lid – it doesn’t take much for it to make contact. It’s a bit claustrophobic and I’m not sure what the consequences would be in the event of an impact. Why I didn’t notice this when I tried the bugger on is beyond me. Putting all that to one side, I’d say that to date I’ve been pretty impressed. It’s a little lighter than the X8R and getting the specs on and off is a doddle. The fit is comfortable and the venting works well. I haven’t experienced the draught issues described by Andy – maybe that’s a consequence of the fit. It’s definitely quieter and more comfortable than the old lid. I’ve used it in, snow, fog and rain over the last couple of weeks and I’ve had no issues aside from slight misting at standstill. I’m fitting the pinlock this weekend which should make it even better – I’ll keep you posted. All in all, apart from the chin/helmet interface problem, I’m extremely impressed – and I can’t really blame shoei for my misshapen bonce.

Thanks for that. I have tried a medium which seems just about right for me, I think you might be right about the sizing as I take a larger size in the System 4. Unless I hear something to the contrary I will probably order next week, I have found them, so far, for £251.
