I have been delayed in knocking off the last 600 or so miles of ‘running-in’ for my Himalayan 450.

Due to a change of plans, I am going to go to Vianden in Luxembourg, to finish a chunk of it off.

Friday depart Chunnel

Friday evening / night in St Omer

Saturday ride to Vianden, predominantly on D roads.

Saturday night, Vianden.

Sunday, a circular ride (yet to be planned) of sbout 180 miles out from the hotel and back

Monday, back to St Omer

Tuesday, mid-morning Chunnel back

Three additional bikes, maximum. It’s not a race. Suitable for anyone who can ride a motorcycle of any sort.

I’ll ping-up the firm details when I’ve finished my morning’s tasks.

Hi Richard, Just looked into going with you on this little trip but the Belle vue is fully booked, I’m assuming this is the place 👇
A few Spaces are available at other establishments in the area though .
Is Anyone else interested in going ?
I’ll have a look around the area later tonight I’m busy atm .

I’d try contacting the hotel directly, as it’s a possibility that it’s only the booking agency allocations that are exhausted.
 
try the ''Im Goldener Grund'' just over the border in Koerpeich....Richard, you've been there before as well......
Not as much going on as in Vianden but a bit cheaper as well.....

Hotels only allow Booking.com a limited number of rooms to sell as their commission rates are eye-watering.
As Wapping says - contact the hotel direct and you will probably get a room at a significantly cheaper room rate.
 
Google maps will show availability with other booking agencies and sometimes the hotel direct. It's where I always do my first sweep when looking for hotels
 
I’ll be bumbling around the vicinity based in Nurburg for a week exploring with a right mixture of fellow yobs never know paths may cross

Ok, Belle vue is full as are lots of other hotels etc...but i have found availability at Auberge Du Chateau the other side of the river.
Before i begin booking all of this (and not to sound daft) do you have a list of must have requirements i would need to take? I've not been abroad on the bike for a good few years now and dont want to get caught out with not having a bit of paper or a hi viz jacket etc.....thanks

driving licence, passport, original V5 & insurance. They don't like copies of the V5. Printed insurance better than a PDF on a phone.
Some euros in cash for incidentals. Cards accepted widely in France, Luxembourg & Belgium. Best to have a credit card for fuel at pay at pump due to large preauthorisation.
Best to have breakdown cover and travel insurance suitable for riding a bike.

Great that you can join me. Wessie is spot on with the bits you should have.

I have dropped you a PM.

As regards fuel. Please ignore all the above. Very simply, just make sure you have enough fuel to arrive in St Omer after 30 minutes of motorway from Calais. We can then both fill up on arrival in St Omer, both then equally ready with full tanks to set off the next day.

St Omer to Vianden, via Chimay is about 280 miles, so a decent enough schlep. Of this the first 70 or so miles is payage motorway to Cambrai with a modest toll fee. I have a motorway blipper thing for me, but you’ll need a credit card to pay. Of the remaining 210 miles, it’s a mixture of D and N roads with no goat tracks (hopefully) with about 20 miles of motorway to fill in a gap between Libramont and Bastogne, which is not tolled. In short, about 190 miles of non-motorway roads and 90 of motorway.

We can stop for fuel in Chimay, where we can have lunch and then fuel up again on arrival at Vianden, ready for the next day.

Would loved to have come but I’m having to go sit in a water villa in the Maldives most of the week .

I’m taking my Himmy to Brittany in a couple of weeks to get a few miles done so I can get first service done before we hit the Picos in a month …

The 450’s ‘run-in’ is in two parts:

0 to 300 miles and first service = 4,000 rpm

300 to 1,000 miles = 6,000 rpm

The two thousand difference in the rev’s is significant, performance wise. It’s this 700 miles that I’ll be eating into on this little jaunt.

Yes I gathered that .
I’ll be doing the up to 300 bit in Brittany and then the 300-1000 will be in Picos then riding back .
