having short legs as i do. i,ve been looking at possible ways of lowering the hight . i did read somewhere, that the tourque arm from the 1100st i think, being longer, raises the back wheel, & so lowering the seat hight by about an inch. has anyone done this? or know of any problems that may be caused by doing it. i.e. stress on pivot bearing, or u.j wear cheers all.
p,s shuold have said, its a 95 1100 gs

What about reforming the seat foam so it is narrower? Should help.

Don't think so, If the torque arn was longer, surely it would push the wheel down lower therefore increasing seat height,
You could try this just by unscrewing the rear bolt on the arm and lowering the wheel (to the ground), same effect as lengthening the arm, so to speak.
not what you want, me thinks.
Just my half euros worth,
Is it possible to get a slightly lower (read shorter) shock?
best of luck,

The torque arm on the 1100 is underneath the swing arm, therefore a longer one would push the rear wheel upwards slightly, lowering the back of the bike a little.

I would do some research to find out the limits of allowable movenent on the rear pivot point on the GS compared to the S. A part number search should tell you if they are the same or different parts.

Lucy's 1100 has been lowered at the rear shock. I think Paul BHT told me that he simply drilled a new hole in the bottom mounting about 8mm higher than the original. This dropped the seat hight by three inches. The down side to this is that the forks can't be lowered easily if at all.

Send him a PM for more info.

Though I'd agree with Atkule, try getting a low seat or having yours modified first.

Val.

What about putting some smaller shocks on your bike ??

I have a friend who put some 1100/1150 Ohlins on his GS and it lowerd it by approx 1" - 2"

He doesn't have either bikes now and i'm sure he still has the shocks - I could make some enquires if your interested. :nenau
