My pals holiday in a place called Souuthwold which is on the Suffolk Coast. Its very traditional, unspoilt and safe. I go for the weekend and camp just outside the town. This time I camped at a new place called 'Pigs in Blankets'. All very nice. Getting there on Friday was a nightmare. I was coming up from Guildford. Approach to the Dartford tunnel is always busy, but then the worst was the junction with the A12. That was a standstill. I filtered down to the roundabout, then pedalled the bike through the stand still traffic. A12 to Ipswich was busy too. My video shows how I pack for the weekend, along with some vid going through the 8 roundabouts that you spin though by Ipswich.

Nice little village, nice walk along the quayside following a bite to eat at The Harbour where they still keep a reference line from the floods of 1953 as a reminder to the power of the sea. Alternatively the Sole Bay chippy is ideal too.
You mention the rowing-boat ferry to Walberswick, has to be done.
Used to play rugby there many years ago (second team) and the boxing day Under 30 v Over 30's was always a good day out on the green.

Its home to the Adnams brewery and shop too. Made many a good purchase in both!

Your road route, was my weekly Lowestoft to Portsmouth commute for the best part of 20 years, back when you had to throw 40p in at the Dartford crossing barrier.

I’ve just come back from a week in Woodbridge, just down the coast from Southwold. I share your pain in the traffic, basically the same journey from Hindhead. Once in Suffolk it’s a delight.

Lowestoft to Poartsmouth....? What a nightmare journey that would be!

Very nice to see some local sights!
Really lovely part of the world. I like Aldeburgh too, its a bit more touristy. I did a visit to Bungay, the Satanic capital of Britain a couple of years back. Good deli and musuem. Didn't see a lot of Satanists but maybe they keep themselves to themselves.

I'm partial to a pint of Ghost Ship now and then, funny how its cheaper in the local supermarkets than it is in the brewery shop though.

Dave & Helen do a good tour of the town (skip to 23:11 for the brewery shop):

Lowestoft to Portsmouth. The arsehole of Suffolk to the arsehole of Hampshire. Southwold and Wobbleswick are beautiful though. Adnams Ghost Ship is as good in alcohol free taste as it is with alcohol. A great pint if you are riding/driving.

no disrespect Puk but that U Tube video is dreadful....what a set of boring numpties.......
As to the Ghost Ship, prefer the Southwold. They used to sell the Ghost ship in 9 pint mini kegs at Tesco for about 14 quid but haven't seen them for a while.
I´m trying to get my hands on the Harvey´s house beer ´´Old Wallop´´- any tips?

I’ve stopped at Brick Kiln Camping a couple of times, just right for a trip out to the coast, and the hosts are lovely.

Great facilities, great staff.

Good shops in nearby Woodbridge if you need anything.

They are working on a substantial improvement on the A12 / M25 junction at Brentwood; a real bottleneck.

Sourhwold, top place. Highly recommended.

Went to Lowestoft recently. It was er ladyship’s idea, so we could ride horses on the beach.

The horses were ok, the beach was ok, but Lowestoft…

Love the area. I've done some biking there as well, staying just outside Southwold. The nice restaurants in the area are London prices, hence the nickname of 'Dulwich by-the-sea
