Should I buy a 1200GS??????

2005 GS -35k miles

problems,:
Final drive - replaced under warrantee.
fuel pump controller - Not under warrantee
Battery - Not under warrantee
Ignition switch - Not under warrantee
Left switch gear - - Not under warrantee
Right Switch gear - Not under warrantee

There is significant corrosion all over the bike,
admitadly i do ride throught winter, however wash the bike regulaly and cover it in ACF 50. The bike lives in a garage and is regulaly serviced.
I have owned many Jap bikes, Bandit 12, VFR 8, africa twin, and none have suffered so badly of corrosion, When i asked BMW about corrosion warrantee they said its only 2 yrs, I asked if the extension warrantee covered corrosion they said NO. That speaks volumes,

BM service standards are excellent, I have never had such good service, but you pay for it.

Just my 2p worth.

I would think twice before buying a gs again.:comfort

Ollie,

If you re no longer interested in speed and knee down cornering, then you should not by a GS. While not there in total horsepower it is one of the best handling and most fun to ride bikes I have ever owned. And there is a huge plus. Lead on an R1 / Blade / ZX10 its the bike, Lead on a GS and you are God or one of his chosen ones. Watched a mate two up on 05 1200GS two up with full luggage and Sat Nav ride round an Aprillia RSV Mille R in France at 70+ with stand on the deck.... Guess who was a) having most fun b) looked like the chosen one c) was "making progress"

Buy one; they are reliable (but not Japanese reliable) and will deliver more than your bandit or certainly a Z.

IMHO the demographic for a GS owner makes them more likely to be internet posters, hence we hear more about the faulty ones on our newgroups, also BMW did/are selling lots of them.

They are great bikes and if you keep it for a while even if you do spend some money on it, you'll get it back. :thumb

Should I buy a 1200GS????

YES!

I bought one Mar '07 and have just put it in against a GSA with all the goodies.

In the (just shy of) two years I put 32500 miles on it, it's never let me down (apart from two punctures) and has had slight oil leaks from gearbox and rear axle, which didn't stop me riding and were fixed in short order.

Probably the best bike I've ever had (and I've had a few).

Phil
