Car warranties went the same way when financial/insurance regulations affected them. Just over two years ago,warranty renewal plus BMW recovery for my 330D Touring was a reasonable £375. The following year I was quoted about £800. Needless to say I didn't bother... So it's not just the bikes....

Quite agree. The US bikes have 3 years.

If you want to feed the BMW machine then go ahead. Personally I won't, unless I get offered an incredible deal, which I very much doubt. I'll be taking my chances.

By also trading in/selling you will also destroy the value of the second 12GS's, as one of the reasons they kept their value was due to not being able to get your hands on one.

I got my 54 12GS 6 months ago with 3k miles on it. Its now at 6k. Hardly run in. Okay, I admit, a few niggles, nothing out the ordinary but all looked after very well by Mr BMW.

Not sure about this one as dealers are selling 04 bikes for £8.5K and 05 bikes for £9K. The second hand market even with ebay bikes etc looks OK to me.
