Should I get the low suspension GS TE?

Hmmmmm farcles..... so puck foot, fender extender and shock shield?

Certain so called 'farkles' are essential, in my opinion............some to protect the bike(you have paid a lot of money for it) and some to make life easier for yourself.

I totally agree, so any recommendations anyone has will be gratefully recieved as I intend to have them waiting ready to fit as soon as I pick up my GS.

Mudsling & AltRider radiator guards, as well as the items you've already mentioned.

Thanks. Being a complete newbee to ESA why would this happen? Not having my owners manual to fall asleep with yet are there any do's and don'ts as far as the ESA is concerned so you don't break it/reduce it's life expectancy etc.

Cheers

Ade

As mentioned adjust pre load before pillion or it will suffer. I forgot to do this once after my wife got onboard and couldn't get the side stand up plus the bike compressed too much with the camber we we're on and it felt like the bike was going to topple over to the due to the bike being very upright.

Keeping the suspension on hard also helps as it firms up the compression on the spring.

I removed the side stand enlarger and this helped.

Regarding lifting the bike off the side stand, no issues there :thumb

Congratulations!!! you'll love it. Good choice too getting the lowered bike, confidence is everything. You'll probably get used to it and get a standard height one in a couple of years :D

I think I'll need to change my avatar to Robin at this rate!

I get what you mean about the 2 bikes. I really wanted to like the TEX, but for me the GS was better in just about every way, The TEX was substantially cheaper but that ultimately wasn't enough.

So the deed is done. I got quotes from both of the local dealers I got a test ride at asking them to give me their best price without disclosing what the other offered and went with the cheapest. I might have been able to wring a bit more out of them but I didn't want to miss out on the free nav5, which is part of the deal.

So after all the feedback it's going to be a TE in Red with lowered suspension and alarm (SWMBO suggested the colour and alarm) with free nav5.

I'll get some luggage later and thanks to this site will save around £300 over what the 1 dealer quoted for the vario system so I'll give the local one I'm getting the bike from the chance to price match or at least get close as I didn't ask them about luggage. Bike should be here before the end of December. The dealer is going to get a delivery date for a customer order. If they can't do December he says he's got a dealer order he can change the spec on instead.

Next up will be his and her decent textile suits...

Christmas won't come soon enough.

Thanks I thought that might be the case and didn't want to risk straining what would be a costly thing to get repaired. Seems we'll need to do a bit of practicing in the garage LOL.

Thanks, try as I did I just couldn't convince myself I would have been able to manage the TEX. On both test rides I was aware of it's weight and top heavy nature and that was without the bride on the back.

Shhhhh don't give the game away... I've not made any rash statements on how long I'll keep it as I've been down that path before and was 'quoted' when I wanted to change my VFR, though I have a feeling I'm about to become a GS convert...

I test rode the explorer and tiger back to back and much preferred the tiger. The extra punch you get from the engine just isnt worth the extra weight / mass. The tiger was just as quick and nice and nimble! If the Super 10 wasn't so heavy i would have bought that over the GS! BMW have definitely done well to keep the weight down. That said 7 months on (confidence must have grown ;) ) i swapped it for a 260kg GSA :D

Should you get a lowered GS, littlead?

Nah, mate. Just buy a smaller make of bike; providing your wife likes it, that is.

I've got the standard height bike with the lowered seat. I wish I'd gone lowered chassis instead as I find the seat pushes me forward in the low setting and want to raise the front but can't reach the ground if I do.

Thanks for the tip. The more replies I get the more it seems I probably made the right decision...

If I'd somewhere to keep it I'd have one by now. Lowered chassis would just suit me. F650GS lives in my front room

Top man. My now deceased ex FIL rebuilt his BSA A10 in his front room. We had to take the door off to get it out. Priceless.
