Because I am short I have my supension low so I can get both tippy toes down thus making my side stand seem very long. So..... should I shorten it a bit or does anyone know if there is one from another bike I could buy that would fit and be a bit shorter? When I park I have to either find a camber or a bit of a hole to put the side stand in, otherwise it nearly falls over :o

you dont say which bike you own.
assuming its an x challenge, the stand off a x country is a direct replacement and is a fair bit shorter.
it is also made from steel so is a bit easier to cut and weld to the lenth you require
ignore this ,just noticed your avitar

Maybe I'm missing something here, but i can't see how a shorter side stand is going to help you :nenau

It will make it lean a lot further over, so with your little legs, it will be far harder to hoik up to vertical :nenau

If your bike is nearly falling over unless you find a camber top park on, surely you need a LONGER side stand?

Beyond that though, if the core problem is ikkle legs, you should be looking at lowered suspension rather than anything to do with sidestands :)

maybe read OP again:D
we had the same issues with an x challenge when fitted with smaller wheels (leaning to far to the right),so tried a x country stand which was a fair bit shorter ,but it was too short and the bike leaned over to the left too much.sorted the problem by cutting a section out of the stand and rewelding to the perfect length.
this will probably be the ideal solution for you,the x country stand is steel and should present no problem for any local engineering company:thumby:

I forgot to mention I have a x country

If its a pre-2009 XCo see if you can find a side stand off a 2009 XCo. Those stands are even shorter.

01 Side stand L=304MM 1 46537696867 $139.68
01 Side stand L=250MM 1 46537716440 $139.68

Its the second one you want I think....but double check.

Hmm
Easiest is to shorten it a tiny bit. I just didn't want to spoil it and reduce its resale value. If however it falls over that will reduce it value.
I think I'll get an inch taken off. If someone bigger than me buys it I'm sure they will be strong enough to lift it as its n'but a wee thing

I have a 2009 stand on my 2007 XC, much better for me as the bike leans over more, got it from BMW dealer...... :beerjug:

Then sold my longer stand to an XChallenge owner, win win for me.....

Edit....
You can lower the back, by lowering the shock at the Base. You will see a big nut at the Base, easy to do...

Another way is to get a lowering kit (40mm) for the shock via M&P, just search XCountry on eBay and you will find it

We have exactly the same problem with Denise's KLX, the suspension is lowered so the sidestand puts the bike nearly vertical. She gets off the wrong side on occasion too because of it! Its one of those jobs I only remember needs doing when we go out, and promptly forget when its back in the garage. I was going to cut an inch out of the stand, and replace it with a bolt welded to one piece and a nut to the other, so the length could be adjusted if the suspension was hoiked up again.

Stand now shortened a bit. Much easier. I don't have to search for a pothole to put the stand in now.
