Should I trade my 2008 1200 GS for 2010 GSA?

I have been offered a pretty good deal on a 2010 GSA trading in my 2008 GS. With the paniers offer it makes for quite a tempting proposition.

I fancy the bigger tank, bigger screen and if I am honest the looks but is the 2010 noticably better in terms of engine? Obviously GS vs GSA isn't quite apples with apples but I always wanted the ultimate and with VAT and price rises this might be the last affordable chance for a while.

So, what's your view? Would I notice the difference?

I tested a 2010 GSA yesterday for the same reasons.

Whilst the engine was stronger everywhere, the chassis wasn't as good due to the higher centre of gravity and longer travel suspension.

The screen was better than the standard GS, but not as good as my £130 Givi Airflow.

When it's time to change I'll buy the standard twin cam GS, not the
GSA and put up with the smaller tank range

Go and test ride one, but it will cost you because the new motor in my eyes is the best yet by miles.

After a test ride I didn't think the GSA felt that heavier, but I don't go that fast honestly so don't really care. Went from a 2006 GS to a new GSA. I just love the new engine and the look of the GSA so that did it for me. 24h left before I switch! :D :D :D

I went from a GS to GSA then onto a new RT1200 but missed the GSA so now back onto a

R1200GSA 30 Year Anniversary White with special Stickers and a Red Seat

yeah baby!!

but you traded a lovely matt black 1150 with adventure tank for your new GSA is the love affair over:augie:augie:augie

Not at all.....you see I'm trying to pretend to be the OP and think like him...hence "No".....if It was me the answer would be "Yes"....... If I was you the answer was "maybe"..... and if I was someonelse trying to think like me...without knowing who I am or what I like..the answer would be "**** Knows"...... got it?:D

DID IT!!!!

3 weeks to the big changeover day!

2010 GSA with Premium, Dynamic, Alarm and 3 piece panniers. Mmmmmm.

Got a great deal, loved the test ride, it's all good.

Dealer was very keen to get me on a yellow one (so was another dealer I tried!), but I went for grey in the end. As much as I like the yellow, there seem to be plenty of yellow ones about unsold and there must be a reason.

Height an issue?

Hi all, I am considering getting a GSA next week when I visit the Park Lane dealership (they have purchased one of my bbq`s! :clap) but when I mentioned it to `Bob` on Saturday (a forum member who visited for some bling) he said I would struggle with the seat height.

To be fair when I bought my GS 2 years ago the seat height did initially shock me (how high?) but have now got a lower seat and I feel much better.

Does any members have any thoughts about this which would help me?

Just put a GS low seat on a GSA and away you go:thumb

I am 6ft 2 and a 35 inside leg and even on the lower setting the GSA is an intimidating prospect. Not sure just how they manage to sell any to smaller riders as even the reach is long.

You can order it with lowered suspension but that does somewhat defeat the object of the GSA over the GS. Maybe follow the GS seat suggestion if it fits the GSA frame.

Jeez

Yep, it does sound like a huge beast. Another member has suggested a lowered sargent seat (which I have heard of) but I don`t know how that compares to the standard seat height - i`ll have a look on the `tinternet!

Thanks for the advice from all.

Mark,

Try the sergeant seat, i am sure someone up by you will lend you one, it changes the bike completely, you sit "in the bike" rather than on it :thumb2

i have one and its great, oh and really comfy.

I've got a 30" inside leg on a standard gsa and it's just fine.

I got the standard GSA seat narrowed, cut down slightly and a Gel pad fitted. It is now more comfy, has a better angle to stop me sliding forward and I can get both feet almost flat on the floor on standard suspension settings. The best thing is that the seat still looks stock.

Not bad for £95.

Mark. I have a GSA1200 with a "low" Sargent seat and it makes the bike very accessible to someone with a 29" - 30" inside leg, especially if you set the suspension settings to something you can manage.

With the standard seat and a shortish inside leg it can get a bit "exciting". You'll get a sore bot from allthe shimmying around to get a foot down.

As others have said, getting the seat reshaped is another idea, but I always think that when the day comes you want to sell it, it's nice to sell the bike with its original seat.

I think its an inch lower than the standard GS seat so maybe 2 inches or so lower than a GSA.
