Jan '05 bike with ABS and no problems whatsoever.

Buy it, ride it and enjoy it!

Why wait....

Thanks for all the advise.

I am now the proud owner of a shiny new 1200gs! Having been a 1150 owner for three years the difference is amazing. It's just so damn light, and responsive and nippy.

I know I've only done 100miles but so far I cannot compliment the bike enough. As far as BMW, well they are money grabbing b******s! I was informed that I'd no longer be able to use my old charger, I now have to buy a BMW version at around seventy five pounds, thank you very much!

Even my experience with the dealers was a let down. You'd think when spending around £10k for a bike you'd be treated with a degree of civility. From what I experienced it was as if they were doing me a favour just selling me the thing!

I have the feeling that the whole BMW GS machine has had it too good for too long. They're no longer hungry knowing that they have a loyal customer base who they believe will put up with just about anything. Maybe I got a s**t sales rep, but I don't think so. I'd love the Japs to come out with something similar just to bring BMW back into line, but little chance of that from the bikes I've tried.

Enough negativity. The bike is great and I'm going to enjoy it, DESPITE BMW!

Health to enjoy, PM. :thumb

On a more personal note, I've had nothing but excellent service from our dealer (I am presuming you bought from Hursts). Mark sold me my bike and was really nice to deal with and still makes time to chew the fat anytime I call. Alan is also a top bloke who has seen me right with anything I've bought. Billy McC is brilliant and a true friend who I've known for over 20 years now. I could go on, but your experiance bears no resemblence to mine. Oh, and I've only ever had Jap bikes up to buying the GS.

I don't mean for this to read like a kiss-ass session. I'm just relaying my dealings with the firm.

The fact the 1200GS requires a different charger to the 1150 is down to the use of can bus electrics, the old charger will not send the signal required by the system to "open" the circuit when plugged into the accessory socket.

You can use an Optimate or equivelent successfully with the 1200GS, you just have to amke the connection direct with the battery using the supplied lead which can remain in place an be tucked under the seat.

I was a dick and listened to all the bad press Hursts got online so went to Scotland. I will refrain from saying where just in case I have to bring the thing back!

Grouch over. I've done 200miles on the 1200 and hate myself for not changing earlier. Why in Gods name I suffered the lump of dead weight which was the 1500 baffles me. The 1200 is a joy to ride, I forgive BMW almost everything; still pity their front of shop boys don't come close to the back room wizards!
