Show us yer Triple Black GSA!!!

Just picked up the new beast last night, only did 10 miles home but first impressions are good. Going to take it easy until the 600 mile service but quick question re gap insurance.

Dealer has quoted £479 for 3 years of cover on the triple black. I know they're not the cheapest but the dealer said they will cover the full spec like for like bike for the retail cost. For example my bike was 17.5 inc luggage, gsap, keyless, akra etc and if the bike in 2 years goes up to 18.5 they'll cover me for that, not what I paid.

What have you guys opted for re GAP?

Congrats I used these based on help from Nutty GSER. They are far cheaper and like for like in terms of cover. When i showed it to BMW dealer he smiled and said we can't compete. Got three years cover. It was for £108 in total

You know that GAP insurance is worthwhile ... and that its a mathematical "risk" ... you also know that the one you have been quoted is a complete and utter rip-off!
Shop around bud...as Mike illustrated above....

bike looks great, what mods have you gone for and what are you going to do, i see you have put some extra guards to the hand guards look factory.
will you use a tank bag ?
 
Like all insurance a rip off, in my opinion. Have never had GAP on anything, saved a fortune over the years and if I have a write off figure I have saved more than that over the years.

Hey bergboxer,

I'm probably going to be quite light on the mods as the bike was at the top of my budget. However so far this is what I have currently and planned. This bike will be used 100% on road with the hope of a yearly tour to somewhere sunny. While I get used to the weight of the tank I'll probably only fill the tank half way. Scared to death of dropping it and the tyres have only done 20 miles so aren't scrubbed in yet.

Currently:
-Touratech hand guard extenders
-Front fender extender
-Mudslinger (nippy Norman combo)
-SW Motech tank bag and tank ring.
-Akra end can. Sounds great, welds a bit ugly.

Planned:
-Touratech or MRA tinted screen.
-Headlight protector. Unsure if clear or metal grill.
-Clocks protector.
-Frame and swing arm protectors.
-Luggage wrapped black
-Looking at radiator guards but mixed reviews re overheating so might not.
-Kreiga US10 on pillion seat to carry 1.5m Almax chain. Not comfortable with that amount of weight in the panniers lop-siding the bike or in the top box over the rear wheel.
-Nav 6 when it's released in roughly in March. Thinner frame with slightly bigger screen but meant to have big Bluetooth improvements.
-Some clear 3M film as a tank pad.

I did buy the touratech handle bar bag but decided it wasn't that good and interfered with the tank bag so returned it. For a tank bag I'm using the SW Motech daypack tank bag 5-9L (expandable) which I've used on my last 2 bikes. Not very adventure looking but the best tank bag I've seen. I also have the official BMW tank bag which came with a previous bike and although much bigger I don't like it at all. Too big, annoying if filling up with petrol, attachments look awful if tank bag not in use. If I felt I needed more than 5-9L I would buy another SW Motech bag. You can get the SW Motech bags and tank ring with electricity but I carry an Anker portable battery in the tank bag and prefer that. Less wires.

Does anyone know what these wires are for?

They're disconnected and just dangling. The wire goes all into the satnav cradle. I thought it was the satnav cradle unplugged but don't have a nav to test the cradle.

Sent a pic to the dealer and they're saying it's a dead wire meant for the audio system on an RT and only there because the GS uses the same wiring loom.

Don't believe it should just be hanging around like that and not fully convinced.

Sorry if it's a basic question but the bike is only two days old so I'm probably more anxious than it makes sense to be.

Went back to the dealer. Turns out it is the satnav cable and shouldn't be dangling. They fixed it.

That's very annoying. I've read about those on here, but was put off getting them as people talked about them over stressing the frame of the bike.

Altrider bars mount to a bracket that does not stress the frame. The bars themselves are significantly thicker diameter and do not necessitate a strengthening bar.

Cannot be combined with fairing crash bar extension 045-5165 on R 1200 GS Adventure, 2014 onwards.
Does not fit Special Edition "Adventure Triple Black".


I've no idea why :confused:

Bollocks, I didn't see that.:blast I've ordered those, and they'll be here by the end of the week.:blast

That makes sense, as the crash bars are a different shape, but I didn't even think about that when I ordered them.:blast

I'll phone TT tomorrow and see if they can stop the delivery.

I agree. It's better that the bars bend than damage the engine/frame. There is a thread about all the different types of LC crash bars and I'm sure there were reports of non-oem damaging the frame. I wouldn't fit the Touratech reinforcement bars under any circumstances.

In what way are the TB crash bars a different shape, I thought it was just a colour change?
