Been searching but didn't find anything specific.

Just got myself an 800GS and beginning to swap over all my toys from the 1200 ADV. Would love to see how anyone's mounted their Zumo 500/550 with the standard supplied RAM mount that I have now or anything else.

Middle of the handlebars seems like the best place for it to me at the moment. It was above the instruments on my 1200, but I don't think it'll fit there on the 800 :(

Cheers,
David.

I put mine at the middle of the handlebars, and is has lived there without problems for two years on all sort of roads and tracks.

No aftermarket stuff, just the Ram mount that came with the Zumo 550.
Had to open the U bolt up a little and file a little to modify bolt holes.
Hope this makes sense..

Yep, makes sense - thanks. I was hoping that I wouldn't need to fettle the u-bolt but it did look like the bars were a bit wide at that point.

Anyone else??

I used a Ram mount with a modified 'U' bolt to fit the wider part of the bars. I mounted it on the LHS so that the Zumo appears just to the left of the instrument panel - that way I can still get to the key and see the instruments AND use another Ram mount on the other side for any other bits ...

Seems like the options are to get a slightly larger u-bolt for the original mount/get a slightly different RAM mount OR get the Alder Enterprises mount.

Have to admit, that Alder Enterprises mount does look nice - always toyed with getting something similar for my 1200 after suffering from continual RAM mount slippage in Morocco. Might cause issues with my tankbag though.
