A few pictures below from yesterdays ride. The weather was great but with all of the rain we've had over the past few days, some of the lanes were really muddy and rutted.
We were lucky we tackled this lane in the direction we did. Just after this picture the lane was quite a steep descent over muddy, leaf covered rock. Thankfully neither of us came a cropper.
A quick break for a mars bar and a bottle of water before heading on.
A really nice ascent through some woods on hard packed gravel and we were then greeted with this view.
Jase by his trusty GS. It wasn't happy about getting hot or wet and kept cutting out at low speed.
We reached a section that was flooded with what looked like over a metre of water. The entry into the water was also deeply rutted by 4x4's.
As Jase was on Tourances he went completely around as we didn't fancy having to try and drag his bike out. I found an easier place to cross.
With our confidence building Jase shot off down the hill. I followed but decided to get out of the rut I was riding in............
Something that needs a bit more practice I think.
The next lane was narrow, waterlogged, muddy and rutted. We were again lucky with the direction we chose as there was no way Jase would have been able to tackle the uphill sections on his tyres.
Once again I managed to find a nice soft bit to 'rest' the bike.
Much to the amusement of Jase as he kept it shiney side up for the whole day.
No harm done, just needed the mirror repositioning. In fact the only casualty were Jases rear indicators. He managed to snap both off against bushes/trees!
A great day out. The ride home was a bit cold and next time we really must take more than a bottle of water and a mars bar for lunch. And if anyone has any tips on how to not fall off when riding in ruts, I'd love to hear!
