Looking to buy a set of E5c sound isolating earphones to link with an ipod and wear on the bike...anybody have this type that could let me know how they perform?

Cheers... :thumb

I've got a pair of E4C which I started using on the bike - the sound isolation is good but they are physically bigger than the Sony Fontopia buds I was using previously and so they get very uncomfortable. Great IEM's for non-bike use though :thumb

Pluck

.....I use Sennihiser CX300 with my ipod- Comfortable, excellent quality/sound and isolation, plus only £40pds.

And they fit easily under my arai.

I bought a pair of shure ear buds on ebay. Sound was good but I couldn't get them to stay in my ears once I put the lid on. I even tried gaffa tape across my tabs, needless to say they were back on ebay and sold for what I paid for them.

Ended up getting a proper intercom setup.

Maybe I've just got weird ears.

Not Shure's but I have a pair made by a company called ER. Fantastic. Great sound blocking, superb music quality at any speed (even on my old 1100 with a noisy screen) and all day comfortable for a few days. But, on a long trip, continual prolonged use does make the inside of my ears tender (probably slightly bruised) so I don't always wear them every day on a 10+ day trip.

I think you mean Etymotic Research - www.etymotic.com

I've got the E6i and they are very, very good. True hi-fi and good noise blocking.

Got them from ebay, seller was nachy1818 - no problems.

Haven't yet tried them on a long trip, mind.

The very ones.........brilliant aren't they. Just be careful of prolonged use, it bruises the inside of my ear canal so I need to have a break for a couple of days mid way through a week tour.

Shure ER5

I have a pair of these - fantastic sound quality, originally bought them for on the plane, total blocks out the background noise etc.:thumb
Tried them on my bike- I have a Tour-X helmet, fine putting them on but I couldn't get my helmet off! I think it must be something to do with the shape and angle of the coil housings. I had to flick them out with my finger whilst my helmet was still on - not easy.
I have since replaced them with Sennheiser PX100 (removed the frame and the earpiieces fit exactly in the ear space of my helmet) sound not as good but I had them lying around so they'll do for now.

best regards,
Dave

Thanks all....

A friend has a mate etc etc who works for Shure etc etc owes him a favour and managed to get a set of E3c phones for a bargain £35 !! I too wear a Tour X and I'm hoping they will do the job ok....can't complain at that price though :thumb

I have had a pair of Shure e5c headphones for the last 18months. initially used mainly on the bike (with TourX and AraiQuantum). Now used all the time for music.

Absolutely brilliant. I dont find the fit inside the helmet to be a problem at all, in fact because the headphone wire goes round the back of the ear, it makes them fit even better with the helmet on. However, they are not small, so depending on the shape of your head/helmet fit, you may or may not have a problem.

Excellent sound isolation - I find these work almost the same as regular earplugs and as a result need only very low volume on the ipod whilst riding.

They are expensive, but sound quality really is incredible especially the bass response. They are also very sturdy so can put up with a lot of abuse.

I would certainly recommend them.
