They say you should never revisit the past. It seems it’s true. The bar we used to set up shop in on one of the squares, is no longer a bar. It’s now some sort of tacky kebab place.

Ther waitress that used to work there wore sprayed on trousers, which left little to the imagination. I guess she’s 40 or more now 😵‍💫

There’s a lot more bar type restaurants in the town, than I remember, too.

Such was my disappointment with Saumur, I didn’t bother to take a picture of the very fine military academy, nor the triumphant tanks. I did though take a snap of a pool of the Loire:

It’s a big site and it’s full. Well run, clean and tidy. Lots of French, Dutch, Italians and a couple of Brits. Very family orientated, I’d guess you’d describe it as. It says on the website that it’s close to Saumur. That’s ‘close’ as in, about five miles. I bicycled into the town and back.

Were the camper van pitches allocated or was it a free for all? Is the plenty of space between pitches?
 
An hour to go, but time for a cup of tea.

I had a first on the journey after lunch, when I saw a tyre explode on an HGV. It was in lane one of the opposite two lane carriageway. It burst in two, horizontally, the cloud of smoke and Lord knows what else all but enveloping the trailer.

It must have frightened the poor sod who was just starting to overtake the truck as the two huge sections of tyre flew about and then hit the road in front of him. Significant lumps of rubber landed in front of me in lane one of the opposite carriageway. I can only wonder what the poor sod in the motorcycle encountered, as I saw him charging towards the spot about 30 seconds later.

I had one blow at well over 70mph in lane 3 of the M6 late one evening many years ago. It certainly gets your attention.
 
Arrived at Sid’s in good time on Tuesday afternoon. Did some basic setting up and then off on a short walk to the local village for some beers, along with the other early arrivers.

I knew it was a good idea to bring 50 metres and more of electric hook-up cable:
