I took the side panels off my R1200GS today to fit a baglux tank cover. Problem is that one of the 'quick action adapters' (I think thats what they are called - you know, the wee jobby you turn from the horizontal to vertical position to secure the side cover). I assume that the plastic notches at the end of the adapter have worn out :nenau

Anyway - I recall reading a couple of threads sometime about side covers flying off due to the adapter not being properly secured and some good advice on how to do a DIY repair etc). Ive tried to search for the threads but no joy.

any advice? Call at the stealers and get a new adaptor or is there a simple way to make sure my panel doesnt fly off due to this being broken.

Thanks in advance

Bob

PS - this is my first time I have started a new thread :beerjug:

I had it happen to me, riding from Ards to comber on the Dual carridge way, the front quick release clip let go and the black side panel flew back, broke the pointed end at top and tore the metel side panel of the tank too, Bm were good with me and they were replaced under warranty with me covering the fitting time, just make sure the font insdie clip is done up correctly.
PS I'm in Ards too!

I had one let go as well, Quite ridiculous that the back of the panel is fixed with metal zeus style clips, but the front is held with plastic fixings that will wear with age.
Interestingly I note that on newer models the fixing system has been changed to a allen headed bolt and metal fold over captive clip, which to be fair Wollaston bmw gave me free when I told them what had happened

Paintman.

Please learn how to spell "DZUS". Thank You.

Have you checked with your dealer for the upgrade parts - they are v cheap.
