are they all the same OR are some of the more branded items really worth the price tag? after a weeks touring i definitely see the need for one (better late than never!) but before i shell out i wondered if there are differences between the cheaper models and more expensive

thoughts or experiences?

thanks

Had a cheap one off eBay from China on my 800gs and it was spot on, i did change the bolts on it for stainless before I fitted it. Have just ordered the same for my 1200, to be fair at less than a tenner it has to be worth a go.

Are you looking for a permanently attached one? If not, I've use Oxford's side stand puck. Costs about 5 quid and on the odd occasion I've parked up on really soft ground it's always kept my gs upright.

I have soft ground/gravel right outside my garage, so I eventually got round to fitting a sidestand enlarger a few weeks ago and it's much more convenient than using a puck :thumby:

Yeah, if it's for every day use I'd do the same.

I allways use a official Ice Hockey Puck they are about an Inch thick and bring the bike up just enough, tough as old boots as well cost about a fiver from Ebay one or two bolts from the top counter sunk from the bottom job done

Any pictures of this method, moderately interested:)

I had the one watermonkey sugested. Its ok untill i hit bumps, then it bounced back and forth, never actually cut the engine but i don't think it was far off. I tried to drill it to lighten it.
Went with a puck off this forum. Made of plastic, much lighter.

Just fit one last night.
£10 from China on eBay, I had to file it a little bit to get round a weld on the stand.
Aluminium pad with a thin stainless top.

I had the bear paw that is shown above on a previous gs, excellent bit of kit and very well made but it was heavy and caused the stand to bounce down a bit when riding progressively on bumpy roads.

I've never noticed the side stand bouncing on mine, that's interesting though. I saw some on eBay from china, they also have anodised colours maybe I'll try one of them. Excuse to buy something :)

I got the same as WaterMonkey , it's a guy that works out of his garage in Cambridge ( Cougarpaw ) good value, and I have taken it from one bike to another with no issues, It actually makes the side stand easier to deploy covering a perfect surface area.
