I am a little troubled, like others, with the side stand lug getting in the way when changing up the gears. I don't want to bend it 'cos I am mechanically inept and will break it (it's just my way!). So I was giving it some thought and have found a way to deal with it and thought I would share.
Temporary fix
There is a small rubber captive foot that the stand rests against in the up position. Turn it through 180 degrees and the stand rests on one side of it about half an inch further out.
Another fix
The stand tube is 22.5 mm in diameter. I am going to buy some rubber coolant hose from a motor factor, split it lengthways down one side and wrap it round the stand. Hey presto, problem solved.
I know all the stuff about not having to do this on a new bike

but I thought it might help someone. Works for me.
