Not had it before but twice last week the bike fell off the side stand.

No real reason for that I can see but, bent handle bars and two small dents in tank.

Is it a common problem?

Not very happy:mad:

Anyone had any luck getting a bend out of these handle bars, not that bad about one inch back on one side.

What were the circumstances?

If the bike is facing downhill - or down-camber, it can roll off the stand. The procedure I follow to avoid this is to leave the bike in first gear, engine off & clutch out. Push the bike forwrd to the 'bite', then lean the weight onto the stand.

Best practice is to face it uphill or up-camber, but that's not always possible.

Good luck getting the bend out of your bars...

Of course, ther's always... replacement...as an option... :augie

Side Stand

The bike WAS facing slightly down hill but WAS in gear.

Will not be putting it in the same place again for sure.

Easy to get the bend out of the bars, although you'll have to remove them and the grips ( more of an issue if you have heated grips). They generally bend at the inboard junction of the rubber mounted grip section. Just remove them, gently clamp the grip end of the bar in a vice and lean on the rest of the bar until they're back in shape.

Mine bent when the bike had a lie down on a ferry to Skye - I took the opportunity to rub them down and repaint them while they were off the bike.

It can and does gradually loose compression while parked and thus rolls off the stand, happens to us all that's how we all learn.

Mine seem to be bent at the main clamp in the middle.

Will try to bend them back at somepoint once I have the pair I just got of Mike O when I have more time to play around.

If they're bent at the main clamp, they've probably crimped and I wouldn't trust them when straightened. In this case, replacement is probably the best option.
