My bike (2000 1150) wont start with the side stand down.
This was the case with early ones apparently.
When you put the stand up then you get the whirring of the fuel pump, no probs, except when you want to warm the bike while you put your gloves on etc you cant..or post a letter, or you know ...the thing has to stop.
So i think i will by pass the switch...great...do a search on here...easy peasy...2 wires...join em...yippee!
MY BIKES GOT 3 WIRES..if i connect brown and white it starts, runs, etc...what does the red do? please help..wish i hadnt cut the plug off !(switch end)
the bike is an import ,does this change things? :o

I think you may have a faulty switch or relay.

The 1150's all should start with the sidestand down. The sidestand switch is wired through a relay and so you cannot (as far as I know) do what you are trying to do. You will have to locate the fault and replace the part (switch or relay)

The 1100s did not start with the sidestand down, and I have a little mod involving a starter relay and a BMW wiring loom which is off a K bike that makes the 1100 start with the side stand down.

Sorry

Au contraire Chris, mine (2000 1150) won't start with the side stand down. Never bothered me too much as I was told the engine doesn't need warming up. The best way to warm an engine is to use it.

Cheers

Dick

yeah..i think it was the early 1150 s that did it.
the 1100 mod works for 2 wires...mines got 3..like i said .wish i hadnt started it.
any help appreciated...a new switch is £70...(expensive snip)

my 2000 1150 starts with the stand down, but stops if it's in gear at the same time.

maybe it's the gear position sensor that's duff :nenau

No i didnt leave enough wire to put it all back (cos i am a ****er)
The bike is now running, but i dont want to leave that red wire without knowing what it is.
The way the bike starts is correct for this model , its been fine,(why didnt i leave it? :spitfire ) so dont think it is a problem with the gear position thingy.
Thanks for the replies fellas.
Gonna ring S.L.M. and hope they can get one...if its an oddball might be tricky.

You should have just took the side stand switch off it's mount, taped it up and stuck it behind the starter motor cover. I ran my 1100 like this for three years. When I sold the bike it just took a couple of minutes to refit.
