Side stand switch.

Does anyone know if the side stand switch on the hp2 is the same as a 1200gs:nenau
Keeps cutting out when riding. Im hoping this is what it is as a new one is £90+vat:blast

Or anyone have any other ideas please on what it could be?

Take it off all together.

Cut through wires.

Connect white and brown.

Never worry again. :thumb







Unless, of course, you occasionally ride around with your sidestand down. :blast

After Connecting the white and brown don't do any thing with the third wire (I think it was red) then tape/heat shrink them all up out of the way

That's what I did over 3 year ago and all has been good :thumb

No need to worrey even if, as suggested, you ride with sidestand down.

Take it off all together.

Cut through wires.

Connect white and brown.

Never worry again.
Unless, of course, you occasionally ride around with your sidestand down.
Around 20 years ago, and aquaintance was killed in such a manner.
Around 33 years ago, I did the same, and got "flicked" onto the wrong side of the road. I am alive because there was no traffic at the time.
So, agreed, no need to worry because, when dead, you will have no worries.

I'm sure Myke has serious feelings on the subject and I dont mean to disrespect them, But...

if you trace the wires back up to just under the side plastics you can actually unplug the side stant wires altogether, then do a neet job of connecting the brown and white and plug it back in. nice and tidy out of the way. :thumb
i did mine after it went at the side of a french motorway in the rain. that was 4 years ago and I'm still alive.
not all bikes have side stand cut outs, and on an enduro its a pain in the arse.

7 years ago, on the Peage, ( In France,) my DR 800 started to cut out & backfire. The backfires were sufficient to set fire to the airbox & burn the ass out of the battery, but I did not discover this until I reached home.
However, there I was, stuck just after getting past the barrier on Peage, with a stopped bike. Lifted off seat, & shorted out Sidestand terminals.
Bike ran again ok.
On getting home, I promptly replaced sidestand switch. I wish to grow older.
If you have a sidestand which "flicks" up as soon as the weight is taken off it, such a switch is unneccessary, but they are few & far between.

If you retract the sidestand before getting on it's impossible to ride off with the stand down :nenau
 
Check the wires around the headstock. Plus under the RHS panel - the wires by the fuel tank.

There have been reported chaffing problems here.

I can see some crimping on the wires in this area on mine - I could see how this could become a problem so good advice from Spout :thumb2

Also agree with taking the switch off and always putting the side stand up before getting on :thumb
