sidestand spring removal

I want to lubricate the sidestand switch so that it does not give up at some inconvenient time on a dark night causing the bike not to start.
How does one remove the sidestand springs to remove the stand and access the switch to check it out?
p.s.I am a 7 stone weakling unable to extend springs by hand type

Dunno about the 1150, but the switch on my 1100 stopped working for some time a few years back. But it didn't prevent me starting, rather the opposite; I could start it/keep the engine running with the stand down, so perhaps it's unlikely to 'strand' you.

As for the spring, not sure just how to get it off. I once had to remove the centre stand, and due to not using the RTFM method, I loosened too many (read 'the wrong') bolts; the sidestand came off as well and the bike fell over. Luckily I was on the offside at the time...

Didn't have any difficulty getting it back together, maybe a bit of leverage with a sturdy screwdriver was required.

stainless steel tent peg removal tool thing with a hook on it pull it unhook it and as haynes says assembly is reversal of removal

You should be able to remove the switch without taking the stand off. Switch held on by a circlip only.

Not much room to remove the switch unless you pry the side stand springs off.

No point trying to lubricate the switch but lubrication of the side stand should be done now and again.

Use something like a good crosshead screwdriver as a lever to twang the springs off and then lever them back on ......

My R 1100GS cut out wen the side stand was put down, wat a pain. mr digger 2006 , cut the wire at the switch n shortend it off ,twisted the two wires together and heat shrank the bare wires to seal the end off.
it now runs with the side stand down, n doesnt start wen its in gear, sorted.

wots in a number o large one, ok solderin is very important, my gaff.

The springs are strong buggers, as always its easier to get them off than back on. I ended up putting a block and tackle set togther and aused a tree to strech them

make sure that you get them assy the correct way, you donet want to have to take them off and put them back on if yo can help it

undo the pivot bolt & remove the stand without touching the spring. when refitting, put the spring on first, then fit pivot. simple.

Get a bag of 1p's ...

... extend the stand, insert the pennies into the spring coils, raise the stand, remove the spring. Fitting is the reverse of the above but you may need pliers to get the little buggers out

One more option to confuse you
Find some suitably strong but flexible wire, fold in half so you have a loop in one end. Find short length of broom handle or dowel, wrap wire tails around the stick a few times, drop loop end over spring hook. Now pull firmly but carefully until spring hook is free from it's locating pin

Disclaimer: Don't blame me if it goes wrong Safety goggles & gloves are a good idea when arsing around with strong springs
