At the same time my front wheel bearings went the bike decided to cut out when in you put it into gear - must be some advance saftey feature :D

Anyway wheel bearings are done and I disconnected the sidestand, joined the brown and white wires and it all worked.

I then decided to have a look at the switch and found the following:

It did not appear to have anything holding it on the locating shaft other than tension friction from the sidestand

I was able to pull it appart, gave it a clean, pushed it back together, reconnected it and it all works

Questions:
Should it be secured on, I'm not sure how that could be done as the locating shaft is smooth?

Is it normall to be able to fix the switch or is it a failure waiting to happen?

Cheers

The side stand bracket on the hp2 is shit. They bend and it mangles the switch. Leave it disconected as you'll be stuck somewhere otherwise.
If you want to put it back on its held in place with a c clip:thumb2

Hi,
And you should see if your bracket is the original aluminium one or the steel one it was replaced with after lots of failures.
You might be able to get it replaced as a warranty-type deal, although I don't think it's a global recall. But in Holland mine was, even though it was out of warranty and I was the 2nd owner. I think the steel one is the same as for the HP2 version still being sold.

You can also buy a nice stainless one from WoodiesWheels in the USA.

And as far as bypassing the switch so your bike thinks the side-stand is always up, I can send you a howtodo on that. PM me. It's easy, except you need to know the wiring logic.

However I did it when I had hassles, but then you REALLY need to be careful the stand is UP when you ride off. If not, if you turn left, you hit the stand and it is surprising how it CAN jerk the bike: VERY VERY scarey. Big time crash potential. Maybe not at full speed, but going slowly for sure.

I heard of a guy who crashed at a toll booth because of that: hurt himself.

So you need to have the habit of ALWAYS flicking it up. NO mistakes.

Side stand switch

The switch was one of the first things I took off my bike. Unnecessary junk to me. After the stand mount cracked I went with the woody's version. Problems all gone. The woody's mount leans the bike over less then the stock unit to help with the stress on the stand. I have not had to think about it again. Richard
