Dear all,

Been absent from extensive touring for a while & want to fix up my R100GS/PD sometime in the future. Aim- just reliable smooth good tourer

My local mechanic did not give me great news that he thought the bike had piston slap & engine wasn't running at its best.

As a point of interest anybody got experience of an engine rebuild with the Siebenrock 1070 touring kit? the search engine on a couple of sights are a bit sparse..

Regards

Does the 'local mechanic' have much experience with aircooled BMW twins?

Exactly!

I'm from Jersey and almost every mechanic in Jersey who has ever touched an airhead has been useless. Some of them didn't even realise that it had separate engine/gearbox/final drive oil and gave it back to me empty of oil!
I could write a book about the numerous cock-ups by Jersey bike mechanics. They simply don't see enough bikes to get any experience of different models. Many people take bikes off island either to France or UK to get decent service.
I used to use the ex-police mechanic but he has now retired. If you want a second opinion from someone who knows what they are talking about, you could ask a good friend of mine, Mick Bellee to look over your bike.

PM me if you want to discuss further and I'll give you Mick's contact details. Where about in Jersey are you? Mick is at La Moye just down from "The Hilton" (HM Prison).

Not sure Siebenrock give that brilliant results. Many have had good results by simply fitting a pair of Moorespeed pistons into your standard barrels.Likely to be cheaper too.

The engine from my R100GS-PD is going to JIM CRAY in Kent for twin plugging and a thorough check over. He rebuilt my R100/7 many years ago and she's a terrific engine. With the 40mm Bings, the PD should fly.....and be oil tight. I have his phone number/email address if you want them.

Paul,

Mine is destined for Jim's too..

If you use Moorespeed's pistons, there's no need for twin plugging,so much less buggering about with your engine.:thumb2

Hi Ras,

I've ridden a Moorespeed bike which had had the heads gas flowed, the valves re done with bigger inlet valves and a sport cam, also a balanced crank. It is smooth, tourquey, revved really cleanly. All of the individual mods add up to improvements in power and performance,it depends upon which ones you do to get the performance you want. The pistons are the starting point, then you go to the valve gear and head work, then the airbox. The next step is the cam and the ultimate is the crank lightening and balancing. Contact Moorespeed, Richie will talk you through all the different mods and what you'll gain at each stage.Twin plugging was the thing to do years ago before folk knew different,Moorespeed have spent a lot of time and money looking into Airhead performance, and their pistons produce plenty of power without the need for other mods. Each stage is plug and play, depending upon your desires and depth of pockets.:thumb2

Sounds like I am about ready to take step two and go for heads+valves

and I also have to admit the idea of balanced crank makes me :drool

btw- it would suck to have bitch skeleton's destiny
