I'd like to have a go and tease out a dent in the end of my standard 1200GS silencer. I removed the three screws holding the end cap on and it wouldn't budge, still held in by the two rivets I guess. Has anyone stripped theirs down before? Is it a case of removing the screws and drilling out the rivets?
Thanks,
Paul

On my 2005 model, once you undo the 3 screws, the whole cover will slide off the exhaust.

Obviously, you have to remove the mounting bracket too.

I really wanted to separate the endcap from the cover. I'm not sure if it's possible to get a replacement cover, any ideas?

I have an end can or full system off a 2005 that was only on the bike matter of months if you're interested.
Cheers

On the early models you can drill out the rivets and remove the end cap (after taking the three screws out) as you want to. Not sure if this is the same on the later models. Maybe post a pic or two.

If your dent isn't right at the very end you'll have problems as there's next to no room between the cover and the silencer.

Paul to get a dent out of the cover it will need to be removed from the silencer, you have to get a strong large diameter tube or bar mounted solidley( a large vice would do) place the cover over the bar get the position of the dent in the right place and use a small nylon faced mallet to tap the dent out, its important to keep the cover in the same plane or direction as the bar its sitting on, take your time small light taps at a time :thumb2

Thanks Dennis :thumb2 Wouldn't I have to tap the dent out from the inside though, or have I misunderstood you?

After drilling the rivets out, does it need to re-rivetted when you put it back together or can you rely on the bracket to hold it in place?
Thanks :thumb2

Personally I'd put a couple of rivets back in or you might find the sleeve slips down the silencer over time.

Paul the only way I have been able to kock dints out of tubes or cover's is from the out side (I haven't got any special dent removing tools) you haven't said how big the dint is, but some times it's best to leave well alone as a bodged repair can look worse than the original damage.
