Silencer removal wrt flappy valve

I’ve had cause to remove the silencer and was testing the flappy valve and was wondering how far i should be able to move the valve manually, there’s 2 small tangs associated with the cable mechanism which act as stops and when i push the butterfly valve manually there’s about a 10mm gap between these 2 tangs so the valve itself hardly moves, is this correct? Also, looking inside the silencer from the inlet side there’s a round disc which blocks off the exhaust gases and forces (I assume) the gases into the perforated side walls and into the exit chamber (made up technology alert) Are there any advantages to putting any holes in this disc? My apologies if this is old ground
 
Unclip the cable ends at the butterfly end. Note which goes in which hole and the way round. Rotate the valve, it is on a spring so should return. Look inside the exhaust as you do this. The movement of the valve should be free and near 90 degrees.

Why even fuck with it?! It’s there purely for emission control and doesn’t add anything to your overall enjoyment of life!! lol
I’d (and have) disconnect the cables and leave the fucker wide open 🤔
If you have the 1250, you’ll have to buy a servo buddy to get rid of the engine warning on dash though. The 1200 LC doesn’t need.

Thanks but I found you can also test it without disconnecting any cables simply by switching the ignition on but, the video was quite informative nevertheless so thanks for that.

It should move from fully open to fully closed

Depending on how crudded up it is it may not move that far

I've just dropped mine in the ultrasonic bath

And lubed the spindle

On my 1200 - cables disconnected valve dumped , bit of pipe in place - job was a goodun 👍👍

Is it emission control or just to keep the noise down?

(I had my original replaced under warranty within three years. I got my retaliation in early and fitted the Healtech device a few months ago.)

Either maybe, but who cares - it’s totally unnecessary 🤔
BMW bikes are becoming way too expensive and part of the reason is the amount of crap they put on them that we don’t need or want?!
The R12 G/S is the only one I’d buy now.
