Silly Question About Going Beyond the Service Due Date

Just the logic that confuses me - the reason for the MOT was so I didn't have to get it done for a year of ownership but I still had to get it serviced so I could have got the MOT then?

This situation is due to the BMW approved used standards, all bikes are sold with a 12 months MOT and serviced if the service is due within 1000 miles. Unless, of course, if the customer negotiates a different arrangement.

I think you're being too critical of the dealer to be fair. I bought my bike second hand from a dealer last October. It was due its annual service in july this year. I think the dealer got the bike via part ex in July and did a service when they got it. They're not likely to do it again when it finally gets sold.
It could be the same with your bike, they may have had it since October.
MOT is different in that it makes you think you have 12 moths worry free motoring.

If your warranty is ok with you doing it later then do that, personally I'd get it serviced before my big trip.

Since the last service the bike had done around 1700 miles so I don't think they had it standing around since last October.

Perhaps I am being too critical of the dealer but then I don't think they were honest with me about the history of the bike. For example the paperwork they gave me and the V5C had the bike as being white but it was blue. Plus they were the last registered owner but didn't tell me until I questioned them - the reason given was that they had to register it as they had it in the showroom too long.

Even with all that the bike is sound and in good condition but I would preferred a little honesty.

If they'd had it so long they had to register it then it could have clocked the miles from test rides and possibly being used as their demo or loan bike. The colour change is probably laziness on the part of the previous actual owner.
My bike had 500 miles more on the clock than when it went in via part exchange.

Thanks for all the comments ............ and I've bit the bullet and decided to get it serviced before the trip and apparently its a big one so probably worthwhile ......
