Somewhere on the forum, some one recommended Halfords paint for the 1100 engine, can some one tell me which one.

Any Halford will do. They all stock the same stuff.

The makers of hammerite make stuff called 'smoothrite' in various colours which when thinned just slightly with acetone makes for a very nice finish that matches the silver engine colour. I had a load of battery acid piss out a while back and ' smoothrite ' sorted it out quite well. It's important to thin it first otherwise it is very sticky and applying it is not easy.
