Due to a rockslide last year the Silvretta is not fully open for summer 2025 *
It is apparently only partially accessible from the Vorarlberg end as far as the site of the fall, similarly it is open at the Tyrol side as far as the Bielerhohe so basically it is a no through road .
On a plus side they have suspended the admission fees for using the bits you can access

=====

* Now closed until 2030, see later post #5.

I have edited the title and the opening post.

Damn, that was on one of my circular routes when we go to Austria in June.

Closure looks to be on the hairpin section heading north on the Vorarlberg side of the Bielerhoehe, knowing what they are like in Austria it will probably be fixed and reopened by this time next year .

Apparently remaining closed now until Summer 2030 , Access from either end to the collapse site but no through road

As had been feared for some time, the Silvretta High Alpine Road , the vital link between the Montafon region in Vorarlberg and the Paznaun Valley in Tyrol, will remain a major construction site for significantly longer than originally anticipated during the Silvretta closure. The operating company, Illwerke, recently announced that the barrier will remain closed to through traffic until at least summer 2030. The complete closure primarily affects the western ramp from Vorarlberg (Partenen).

Simply patching the road surface is no longer sufficient. Instead, the operators are undertaking massive infrastructure improvements: sections of the road are being completely rerouted to permanently bypass the most dangerous areas. In addition, enormous protective embankments are to be built to effectively stop future rockfalls.

The Tyrolean side remains toll-free during the Silvretta closure.

Despite the disappointment over the less than rosy outlook due to the Silvretta Pass closure, there is a small consolation for all those who don't want to miss the panoramic view from the Bielerhöhe. Access from Tyrol via Galtür to the pass summit remains possible, and as things stand, it's even toll-free. We'll keep you updated on the construction progress on our pass portal .
