Single cylinder spark plug ???

OK..treated my self to a nice Yamaha xtz660 tenere

Done nearly all of the service but when I go to collect the new air filter, I also
need a new spark plug. What is the opinion of spark plugs (for single cylinder) such as NGK platignum or splitfire etc etc over just a standard NGK plug?

Any benefits ( I personally can't think of any ) for the extra dosh they cost ?

Can't advise for the others but the only real benefit that the "Splitfire" plug has over any others is the application of dual plugs fired by a single coil, double fire ( firing on the alternate cylinder plug during the exhaust stroke.) Any other application for "Splitfires" is smoke & mirrors.....
This application is common to many Japanese multicylinder engines....Don't ask me how I know....

Actually, hate to admit it but you are right !!

Paid cash for a new NGK jobbie...approached the said bike in an professional manner...to quickly whip out the old plug and ( I believe they are right hand thread) replace with new one.....except....the crash bars are bolted/mounted right above the plug cap so I cant pull that off..and to get at the crash bars ( in order of merit ) I have to unbolt the seat.....unbolt and remove top fairing so I can remove the PD tank so I can remove the crash bars so I can remove the plug !!!!

I patted the tank and walked quietly away

Spark plug will do as a spare

Singles eh...so hard to work on !!!

Shame those crash bars are there tho' would've been a quick 2 minute job

Why not just remove the offending bit of crash bar with an angle grinder? It will save loads of time in servicing.

Last two posts very informative and I may try them. For a 2 minute job..it would take about an hour ( can't be arsed tbh ) to remove all those gummings...oh and CD rom is on order but have serviced the bike ( could re-build her blindfolded) other than valves and sparky !! The crash bars are just a smidges ( non factory ) to low to lift the plugcap fully off !! Dammit !

Vern 2lb hammer should suffice
