SINGLE-CYLINDER

What happened to Triumphs planned big move into the off road competition market?

I don't know why they are bothering

It's not as if KTM sell them by the lorry load
Unfortunately it also looks like a KTM rather than something a bit different... like a retro.

If it looked like this I might be tempted...

ANOTHER Ducati single - Does anyone remember the 'Supermono'?

From memory it was a single cylinder race bike (never made for the road) I seem to remember that it had a 2nd cylinder that didn't fire but was used to somehow cancel out vibration?

Anyone remember the single middleweight they trialled for a short while in the 1990's? It kept the L twin layout but one "cylinder" was retained for engine balance and wasn't a combustion chamber. There was a play about too with another L twin "single" which used the extra chamber for supercharging duties! The classic 350 above is one I remember from my youth and lusted after along with the 750 GTS round case.

I do. I seem to remember Alan Cathcart racing one and a German female winning the European Super Mono championship on one…I think.

I had a 450, also with the fabulous double drum brake rather than the disc on the front - oh if I could roll back the clock ...

They are going into MotoX in quite a serious way by the looks of it so I guess there will be mirensingle cylinder bikes to come

Not much good for off road with a high first.

I used to like singles for the same reason as I liked diesels in vehicles, for their simplicity and low end grunt. That all seems to have gone out the window these days.
