Nevers is a nice town...and close by is Magny-Cours..old F1 circuit....where in late April they have a Classic Car event weekend...which is superb...and cheap to visit. (About £18 for a two day pass...reasonable enough to skip a day if the weather is shite.....Even the Mrs enjoyed the event)

Not much of France that I don't like, but I especially like the Alpes de Haute Provence and the surrounding areas.

For an itineray I'd suggest working out a theme, eg Roman remains / wine tasting /castle and then working out where to tick those boxes the most.
